Fossil collector's $30K relic arrived in pieces
Before and After...
Well, apparently that's what happens to a meager $30,000 purchase these days

Why ship a $30k fossil? At that price I'd be driving there with a uhaul and making sure its secure as possible. if you want something done right do it yourself.
My thoughts exactly.
Im suprised the thing was never marked as fragile.
I'm surprised they did such a shitty job of packing it, if it was worth $30k.
3/4" of stiff foam against a wooden crate is NOT how you pack something brittle.
You need a lot more cushion and shock absorption.
The packing job is bad, no matter who they shipped it with.
Being from the family of the Utah Jazz ownership you'd think this guy could have flown a helicopter to go and get it.
I think you underestimate how much vibration that helicopter would transmit into this kind of crappy packing job, probably causing it to crack anyway

lmao! This had me cackling so loud that my boss had to come take a look at what was causing all the fuss, then SHE doubled over too! Bravo! +1M potato points!

My thought exactly. This isn't from it being whacked or thrown (lol), it's from vibrations not being absorbed.

It COULD be from a single drop.
But either way, it failed exactly along the lines you'd expect, structurally, and it's a material that is going to have no tolerance at all to impact OR vibration.
The shit packing job just blows my mind. The person that packed this was a moron.
Im going with a privately contracted shipping service like Uship
Unless the shipping service repacked it correctly, it wasn't going to matter who they used.

LOL
The thought of archaeologists using UPS is really funny to me
