My NES Collection

In honor of me being in the home stretch of my NES licensed collection, I figured I would use this thread to document all my NES stuff.

My goal started off as "Just some NES games I wanted to enjoy from childhood about 15 years ago."  Yes, back then most games were still easy to find locally and I rarely used ebay because it wasnt that big yet.

As my work situation improved, I found myself with a bit more disposable income, and started sinking it into games- not just NES, but that was the focus.

It wasnt until I had 300 or so of the licensed set, that I decided to go for full set minus SE.  If a SE falls into my lap at a reasonable price, I always keep funds set aside for it.  But I am not holding my breath because of some of the personal issues I have with "private" sales of high end games like that.  But its ok, SE was never really my White whale.

Anyways, as I got deeper and deeper into NES collecting, I started chasing sealed copies, home brews, unlicensed, variants and other oddities.

I want to use this thread To show case some items, and to (hopefully) keep it updated as I come down to the goal.

Once I hit my licensed set goal, I will not stop collecting.  I will still be after the weird stuff, because the NES was my first gaming system and has held a special place in my heart into adulthood.

Anyways, heres some Pics!

PS. My photography skills are garbo, I will try to update some of the crap pics with better ones.

Most of the licensed and unlicensed.

3/5 screw variants (and grey Zelda) - The way I have it organized, all the 3 screws I have go with the "licensed", even if the original release was a 5.  If you see the original 5 screw here, it means I have the 3 screw variant as well.  The original 5s that I dont have the 3 screw variant of, still end up in the Licensed set

  • Great collection! Thanks for taking the time photographing and showing it
  • Congrats and nice collection! It's always cool to see collections and hear the stories from collectors who have been in it for awhile. Thanks for sharing
  • I especially appreciate the PAL exclusives as many US set collector's such as myself don't have them.
  • I like what you got, good job!
  • What's the final 17 look like?
  • I also enjoy the variants and exclusives to other countries. The NES set has so many cool variants to stumble into.
  • The best looking carts in the business. Looks great, can't wait to see future updates.
  • I like the shelves! Good job and good luck with those remaining!
  • No Tengen Tetris? Blasphemy!
  • Looks great!!!
  • Looks really nice! Jealous of a few of those titles
  • Nice. looks like you are missing pac mania for the tengen set. just like me.
  • Great collection! Thanks for sharing and good luck on the final stretch.
  • Nice clean setup!! I see the price on panic restaurant. Is that what you paid? I remember seeing that game at a yardsale around 2000 and the guy wanted $7 I think. Way too much to pay for a Nintendo game back then haha!!! I passed. The guy eventually opened a game store so I asked him about it a few years ago. He remembered having that copy and said it was the only one he had ever owned. I've only seen one other in the wild and that was last year. Rarities of some of Nes games even back in the day is crazy.
  • I don't see Corvette ZR-1 Challenge.
  • Like the PAL stuff up there. I grab those too when I can. Just picked up Parasol Stars. I think my first was North & South PAL A. I won an auction on ebay for it in high school, during a computer class in 2004. Local seller too, paid $10. Thought the blue label was neat, to our orange.

    Good luck on the 17!
  • Looks great! Interesting to see you held on to o Star Keeper. Where's the rest of the homebrews

They are coming!  I want to take my time and do them justice with solid pics.  Still want to show off my other unlicensed, pirates all that stuff.

  • Carts look to be in great condition all around and the display looks awesome. Especially like seeing all the PAL exclusives, unlicensed, and variants. I find that stuff to be such interesting parts of the NES history.
  • dang i have practically all your final 15. we went different routes lol

I’ve seen one copy of champ pool and I wasn’t able to get it! Game is uncommon. Nigel Mansell is another tough one. I seen one local and grabbed it for $5. Seen one time of lore and wacky races. Resold time of lore when I needed $ wish I would have kept it.

    Good luck!

  • Awesome stuff, I love how you have all the 5 screws together, makes me wanna start picking those up. I love seeing final x games needed list, as yours is completely different (and way less expensive) than the last 12 I need.

It's the same game as Race America so it isn't essential anyway.

  • Very neat collection and nice display! Which are your favorite games to play? Which is the rarest game that you came across in terms of loose carts?

Yeah I have found some Low value ones to be rarer than I would have thought.  Ultimate Air combat and elimator boat duel come to mind.  I am also avoiding hitting over priced BIN on eBay, its tempting but not as fun as working a local deal/trade.

What are you still missing?  Rares?  5-6 years ago when prices started shooting up I knocked out the rares I still needed so I avoided most of the gouging.

    Megaman 2/3

    Mighty Bomb Jack

    Kickmaster

    Totally Rad

    Power Blade 1/2

    Kid Icarus

    Shadow of the ninja

    Little Samson

The rarest game I "found" was a in a lot that I got out of a legitimate Barn.  It was an NES console in a nasty old moldy box with a copy of Faria,Zelda 2, Darkwing Duck, DK jr Math, Ducktales and a few other commons.  I was told I could have whatever I wanted out of the barn for free.  They were in ROUGH shape though, took a ton of cleaning and since then some have been label upgraded.
