This is a direct quote regarding how the President at the time said illegal immigration should be dealt with...and I agree with is it all the way.
"All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens."
So far most all the opposition (at least among the liberal D leaders/media/activists and such) can come up with is strawmen (pretending Trump is against immigrants in general or otherwise leaving out the "illegal" part of the issue, such as arguing the classic "we are a nation of immigrants") and fake racism (I can't stand seeing people's lives ruined again and again and again because of that). Not to mention that silly dog whistling crap...for Pete's sake no one is whistling for dogs or whistling Dixie or whatever. The only thing sillier I can think of is that stupid "War on Women" crap from a few years back (which really was "war on abortion on demand").
Look, Obama had eight full years to tackle this issue...if he had done anywhere close to a decent job of it and/or getting Obamacare to work right (I mean that was his signature issue/program by far), then I doubt Trump would've bothered to run.

So its Obamas fault eh? Cool.
Why didnt Trump and the republicans do this when they held the house, senate, and the presidency for the last 2 years?
Trump being “against” immigrants isnt a strawman, its a fact. Please change my mind by providing me with proof, I will gladly listen.
Calling the media “ the opposition” makes you sound like a Trump parrot FYI.
I have to say I've soured fairly quickly on the Trump presidency and actually hope he gets impeached so we can start the Mike Pence presidency.
Just like (in hindsight admittedly) with Clinton's impeachement, what was the point of going through with it and wasting everyone's time when everyone knew/knows that in both cases there is virtually zero chance of conviction? In the case of the Clinton's impeachment for example, not ONE Democrat voted to convict on either charge and there a combined total of ten Republican votes to acquit. And Trump is up for re-election in less than two years anyway...if he's really such a terrible guy then surely the D's should have no trouble beating him in 2020.
As for Pence, I don't recall him uttering a peep regarding if he's even interested in being POTUS at all.

There is a chance that instead of banging a chick and lying about it, Trump actually conspired with an other country to undermine one of our most sacred democratic institutions for personal gain.
Those two things arent even on the same level.
If Muellers report comes out and proves anything (outside of what has already been proven with manafort/cohen/flynn) those career republicans will fold on him in an instant and toss Him right under the bus.

It's cute that you think that's what motivated Trump to run.

Because it was crap and everyone knew it. Starr and Gingrich tried everything they could to pin Whitewater on him and nothing sticked (like the endless investigations of Hillary all come up nil.) So they jumped on the Lewinsky thing to try their one shot at getting rid of him.
Trump, on the other hand, has had a large number of his inner circle actively conspiring with a foreign nation that has been our enemy in the past. There have been several indictments, Cohen is going to testify to Congress, Manafort is done, and Trump knew nothing about this stuff?
Either he was involved, which makes him a traitor, or he was too stupid to see it, which makes him unfit to hold office. Either way, he doesn't come out of this looking good.

It's only 5 billion he wants, just give it to him. I always tell people, if your for higher taxes and open borders then vote democrat cause that is exactly what they would do if they were running the country. Dems don't really care if ms-13/terrorists coming over the border or drugs or human trafficking because those are just more votes...so for the rest of the American people we are the ones suffering. Wake up America and build the damn wall already.

I see a lot of people who are against it but yet have posted how to protect the border better.
Have the worlds greatest showman Elon pitch an elevated solar powered maglev train along the border and every one against the wall would be handing out money left and right to build it. You would have to build fences for safety reasons.
As for the earlier comment about the great wall being built wth slaves. We have plenty of prisoners sitting on their asses getting free room and board, healthcare, education, ect on the tax payers dime. Chain gang time. Make prison a punishment again.
Come on you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know what Bill Clinton was implying. Then this little number from Hillary.
“I voted numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in," Clinton told an audience at a campaign stop Nov. 9, 2015. "And I do think you have to control your borders."
Hilarry Clinton
Better border control, sure, which the Democrats were willing to fund up to 1.3 Billion, and possibly higher if DACA is on the table. Barriers are already in place, and both sides have funded them and other measures (patrols, inspections, etc.) I don't see anyone arguing against those at all. Avatar posted his take and I don't see anyone disagreeing with it.
A wall that Trump is proposing is nothing but a waste of money.
And as Arch said before, with the shutdown in place, the border security is even worse than it was before. It's pretty clear Trump views the wall as a trophy and not a serious attempt to protect the borders. Makes for good photo-ops, and nothing else.

^^^^Really read this quote right here ^^^^.
"MS-13 members = votes" Illegal, immigrant gang bangers usually DO care about voting. I know ive seen them waiting in line at the poles. Makes sense.
More illegal drugs come through actual ports of entry to the country, than just across open desert. Not saying there ISNT any coming through desert, just that To me personally, it makes more sense to take care of the larger easier problem. Cargo ships, vehicles etc. I would post something to prove it, but its so easy to actually find on the interent, nobody cares if you dont bother to look.
"Dems want open borders and high taxes"
High taxes? Yes. I do suppose you can pay off 22 trillion dollars in national debt with go-fund-me's, but I dont think it will shake out. Fuck the future generations! In fact, lets make it cheaper for the companies and people that pay the most taxes. Try to get as much as you can out of the poor, thats also sound logic.
Open Borders? Thats just right wing talking point easily disprovable nonsense. Keep in mind Hannity doesnt ACTUALLY know anything, hes just a TV show host. Being able to text the president memes probably is pretty cool though.
There was money on the table from Dems for Boarder security already (that republicans already agreed to), and easily more with DACA. Money for more judges, more border agents, improved holding facilities, vehicle screening areas/tech, Drone, camera and other technology upgrades.
But really, who gives a fuck about any that shit? We want a big ass wall, that can easily sawed through with a battery powered recip saw or Plasma cutter. Because Trump probably knows a guy that will do that work really nice and proper like. Probably cut us the family discount too.
For those who are against the wall, what would you do to protect the borders better?
I see a lot of people who are against it but yet have posted how to protect the border better.
There are so many common sense ways to upgrade border security without a huge physical barrier, Have you bothered to look it up? Even the Border potrol agents want things other than the wall.
A lot of people are against the idea behind the wall, and especially the way Trump is about it. That and the gigantic waste of tax payer money.
Remember when Republicans were the party of fiscal responsibility? Peppridge farm remembers.

I know right? Who cares about people re-acclimating to society and being productive.
You got caught with some coke? Were going to work your ass in the sun for 14 hrs a day. Bet they will do a killer job, take real pride in that work.
You do realize that your common criminal isnt a specific skilled tradesman right?
As for the earlier comment about the great wall being built wth slaves. We have plenty of prisoners sitting on their asses getting free room and board, healthcare, education, ect on the tax payers dime. Chain gang time. Make prison a punishment again.
Okay, and do all of these prisoners know construction? How to operate heavy machinery or use tools? Have the knowledge of how to actually build this wall? Or is this something we will teach them all? What if they don't want to do it? How will it be enforced to get prisoners to work in the middle of the desert in the heat if they say no? Where are they going to live while it is being built? Some parts of the wall are hundreds of miles from any town or city. What kind of quality of a wall can we expect from a bunch of uneducated criminals?
I just don't think people like you think these ideas through and the logistics of them. The idea pops in your head and it just automatically will work. No obstacles or issues. These are what just popped in my head in 2 seconds. Imagine all the other things that we are both not thinking of to make things even more complicated?
Again, the sales pitch that is being used for this wall and what it is going to prevent is just ridiculous in the first place. Most people on both sides want tighter border security and ways to make the country safer and more secure. This wall is not the answer.
I guess it must just be to prevent poor people from seeking an opportunity for their children.
Well there is a way, a legal way to be able to come into the country to better yourself and your kids, crossing the border illegally and putting the life’s of the kids in danger is not the right way and no one is stopping them from doing it the legal way.
The Trump administration is trying to ban people from doing it "the legal way" (asylum)

No one is saying that there shouldn't be some kind of border security.
But you do know that the majority of illegals get in through legit work visas, AKA, "the right way."

So yes, our government is trying to stop people from doing it the legal way.
Asylum has rules too. All these people that were in the last "caravan" were offered asylum in Mexico, therefore they are (according to the law) unable to claim asylum in the USA. Also economic reasons are not valid reasons for claims of asylum.
I'm pretty well versed in the LEGAL immigraton rules. I am sponsoring my sister in law because my brother in law didn't make enough money to do it. Why should she be kicked to the backdoor because some funded group of economic leaches is crying at the border and lying about asylum claims.

Trump used the wall idea to rally support when he was campaigning. He doesn't really believe the wall is necessary but his presidency has a big focus on fulfilling his campaign promises, so its more of his need to deliver than to solve a problem.
Whether the wall will actually be effective or not, who knows. But it will guaranteed be a waste of money if we build it. It will not permanently stand as a monument of his legacy. It's basically going to get demolished in similar fashion to the Berlin Wall in a few decades time.
If he did want to build a monument to signify his legacy he should have built a bridge between Alaska and Russia. Much less distance to cover than the Texas/Mexico border. It would have economic and tourism benefit because it would allow the trucking industry of the Eastern hemisphere to connect with the Western Hemisphere and it would enable people to drive basically to anywhere in the world by car

If you are resorting to conspiracy theories, then you arent here for intelligent debate.
Does anybody think that we are partially at fault for all these South Americans trying to get asylum? I mean a lot of them are Honduran and that country has never been the same after we kicked out their democratiy elected leader and put in someone that would do what we asked. One of the biggest problems in this country is all the misinformation out there. People only listen to one newstation and get a one sided picture of the world. Republicans listen to Fox news who work for the Republican party who only care about business and wealthy people. Most democrats listen to MSNBC which is full of corporate democrats that only care about business and wealthy people. Both parties enjoy war, do not want single payer healthcare, do not want to fix the education system, and neither care about global warming. The democrat screw you over subtly with a silk glove and the republicans screw you right in the open. The two parties differ on social issues, these end up being the main reasons people pick different parties. But while people are being divided on social issues we're all being screwed economically. The only thing good about the Democratic party is that they have 5 or 6 people that really want to change the country for the better while the republicans don't have a single person that cares about the country..

So yes, our government is trying to stop people from doing it the legal way.

No one is saying that there shouldn't be some kind of border security.
But you do know that the majority of illegals get in through legit work visas, AKA, "the right way."
The wall can't stop that.

Jesus Christ buddy, smh.
Trump used the wall idea to rally support when he was campaigning. He doesn't really believe the wall is necessary but his presidency has a big focus on fulfilling his campaign promises, so its more of his need to deliver than to solve a problem.

If you are resorting to conspiracy theories, then you arent here for intelligent debate.
