Yeah unfortunately because of my arthritis i am having a hard time even holding a playstation controller lately :/ Really sucks, i had to stop playing certain games altogether like rocket league.

What do you think of the screens on the 2ds xl? I keep reading they are not the greatest. I have no interest in 3d at all, so i don't mind the 2ds concept.

Serious suggestion, for the console side... consider commissioning Ben Heckendorn (or a similar modder on his forums) as he builds "accessible" custom controllers as part of his business.

It wouldn't come cheap, necessarily, but he would probably be able to come up with a design that considers your limitations and fits your needs.

I don't mind waiting to dig into that library. People keep bringing up how i said there are no good games in the 3ds library and that is by no means what i am saying.

As an owner of 80+ DS and 80+ 3DS games, including virtually every "essential" title on either, I'd say the must plays on the 3DS > the must plays on the DS.  Specifically, Link Between Worlds, Mario 3D World, and the Fire Emblems (take your pick).  And then as far as JRPGs go, the best ones on DS (Radiant Historia, Bowser's Inside Story, Devil Survivor, Strange Journey) all got deluxe 3DS releases.  In addition to the best Etrian game (Persona Q), the best Dragon Quests, more/better N64/Cube/Wii remasters, etc.

Original 3DS units are only $60 at GameStop. Great deals on 3ds consoles right now. There's more staples of the library for $20 than ever.

I might be a little bias, but the value in a used 3ds system is massive. Way more value for the cost than where the switch currently sits, although I do love the switch.
  • I'm definitely on the 2DS XL or even the regular 2DS train. I collect 3DS / 2DS consoles, but have most of my playtime on the 2DS XL and regular 2DS. Both are fantastic and pretty comfortable to use. Especially the 2DS being $80 new, with a game, is one of the best deals ever for a handheld system.

As others have said, a DS Lite is a great way to play both GBA and DS, and you can usually find them for quite cheap. With a bit of patience, you can get a really nice unit for about $12 - $14 shipped from Japan. A DS Lite + a 2DS XL would be the way I'd go if I were to start getting into the handheld libraries.

Brock's post was incredible, and a post for both the GBA and the original DS of the same caliber could easily be done. Gotta love Nintendo handhelds.
  • My only question is how can you say there arent must plays for you on 3ds but are on ds and gba? That makes no sense to me. The 3ds has literally everything for any possible gaming type want. 3ds is so much better than regular ds games, plus you can play both. 3ds games look great and tons of must plays. Get a new 2ds xl and take the hit. Its way better. Ds lite sucks dude. I havent picked mine up in awhile but id gamble to say its heavier than a 2ds xl

Thats what I thought. I dont get how anyone could think the 3DS has 0 good games
  • You guys seem to want to try and convince me of why my choice to opt for DS/GBA is "wrong" and 3ds is right, just need to understand i am personally interested in DS and GBA right now. It is nothing against the 3ds or its games, which for some reason you guys keep putting words in my mouth.

I completely agree with you guys it is a great system and has many good games i will likely play someday, i've never said otherwise. I am just not willing to invest right now in one as like i said i would prefer the New 3DS and those are on the pricier side, usually $125+ depending on condition vs a $25 Ds lite and then i can't play GBA as well. And again that is on top of having a backlog of games i have been wanting to play for a while now on these 2 systems.

So for me personally it makes sense to pay almost nothing for a Ds lite and have tons of games to enjoy(i have an R4 already and Everdrive X5). And in a while i will invest in a 3ds when they will likely be even cheaper and i will have played what i wanted on the prior systems. On a site dedicated to collecting old games where most of you love and cherish NES is it that hard to believe someone could get more enjoyment out of GBA and DS over a 3ds game? Or maybe just prioritize them over 3ds at the moment? lol

The Ds lite is lighter than any version of the 3ds or 2ds by almost 50 grams. Not a ton.

Like i quoted you earlier. When did anyone say the 3ds had 0 good games? You are putting words in my mouth. My last post should hopefully clarify things.

  • get a DS lite from Japan new in box... they are cheap AS F and you want a minty new one because the shoulder pads wear out
  • The new 2dsxl is 14 grams lighter than the ds lite. Dslite is not lighter than every version

The Ds lite is 218 grams, the 2ds Xl is 261 grams. 43 grams difference. Like i said, not a ton. But it is lighter

google on my phone put the weight of the original ds with a picture of the ds lite when i typed ds lite weight. said 275

I would add though that the ds lite after playing the better stuff sucks now. Small dpad. small screen, small buttons

The original ds games use way to much stylus gimmicks in games for my taste.

Option 1 is obviously what you already decided. People took your option 2 as an actual option so they gave you a 1 better option. You already had your mind made up. The answer is easy

    3. New 2ds/xl & GBA SP 101 (light, plays DS and 3ds(get the old ds games that you apparently said are must plays, and plays all these awesome 3ds games you somehow disregard as not must plays. IMO the 3ds first party titles kick the ds titles' ass) and then you have an actual system made for gba to play gba and all generations older. 3ds systems dont cost that much. Wait for a deal with some games on facebook or something. I see them on there all the time for reasonable prices.

But i didn't have my mind made up.........hence why i was asking here   If GBA games played and looked like balls on a Ds lite i would much rather an SP and get a DSi. But IF GBA games play great on a DS lite, i would rather have 1 system that does both. Was curious on peoples opinions so i could decide.

It has nothing to do with the 3ds titles kicking DS titles asses or not dude lol the point keeps going right over your head. 3ds has great games but there are many games i really want to play on the DS right now. FF tactics, FF3, Pokemon Soul Silver, Suikoden, Golden sun, etc. There are still lots of games that are fun to play and i can play them on the cheap. Just because the 3ds is newer doesn't make them better, you keep turning it into a competition between the libraries. Again, i would hope on a site dedicated to collecting ancient video games you could understand that lol
  • And you can play all those games on the 3ds and have a better system and play good 3ds games.

i play alot of first party handheld games. 3ds has been far better quality to me. Its not because newer is better. The system is hands down a better  piece of hardware. My dslite has a bum shoulder button that works half the time ( made cheap)

ds games always tried to make gimmicks amd use both screens all the time. Thats why i found them worse.
  • Magus, to be fair you did come to the forum asking for our advice. And my advice, which is similar to quests is...

    Get a 3DS

You get access to the massively deep DS library, and the ridiculously good 3DS library. They can be had for cheap.

Hell, send me $30 and I'll mail you brand new copies of Link Between Worlds, Luigi's Mansion 2 and DKC Returns that I have sitting behind me.

On the other hand if the 3DS isn't doable because of your disability then I think you have your answer.
