Game Genie in a Toploader

So I had picked up a game genie at a yard sale a while back and in leau of getting the official, now $300, galoob toploader adaptor I was curious what my best options was.

My thoughts were:

1. just get a frontloader again

2. to create a Segaesque "tower of power" in this order: front loader => nes to famicom adaptor => famicom to nes adaptor => game genie => cartridge. Would this abomination actually work? I have a nes-to-famicom adaptor already but can't find many options for the reverse: famicom-to-nes adaptor. If this is feasible, I spotted a couple on Ebay for $30-$40 but it would be nice to get one cheaper, anyone know a good source?

Or is there a better way I am missing entirely? The game genie board ,free of its shell, is damn tight in the toploader, I fear destroying the NES contacts going that route.

  • You may consider an AVS; you'd be getting non-emulated NES in HD with built-in game genie and more.
  • Easiest would be simply to get a front loader, but using adapters is possible as well, found this video of somebody who did it:

Brilliant. I just need to find a famicom-to-nes adaptor then.

I think one day I'll upgrade to the HD world... I still don't even own an HD television. In the meantime I'd like to mod my toploader to composite at least.

  • ^ that's a no-brainer mod in my opinion, especially if you have jail bars. I had mine done, but it seems fairly straightforward.
  • Yeah I could probably handle it. I am decent with a soldering iron. Its been on my to-do list for a few years I should just bite the bullet.
  • I already had a Famicom for other reasons. I am almost ready to try the 1/2 power of tower (NES game > Game Genie > adaptor > Famicom).

Anyway, you can get the adaptor from tototek.com. Not much cheaper than what's on ebay, but brand new.

Dude thanks a million that source looks great! I'm going to snag this and try my tower of power.

Browsing Ebay is a nightmare for this, its hard to tell what is FC-to-NES or vice-versa. The few that were clearly what I wanted were at least $40 or more and look like cheap garbage anyway.

And this one goes the other way... 60pins to 72pins Game Adapter Converter

"Use this game adapter to play original Famicom game cartridge on NES console."

    except...  I just saw this

"Work on NTSC / PAL NES consoles (NOT included the toploader nes console)"

    Dunno what's up with that
  • Yeah not sure why that is. I already have a NES-to-FC that works in the toploader. It's kind of cheap feeling but it works. Hopefully the FC-to-NES I ordered from them works well enough in my tower of power.
