Final Fantasy 3

I have a reproduction cart of Final Fantasy 3 for the NES and it has a weird glitch where after you get the airship and you go into a random battle after that battle has concluded the Airship dissapears. It looks like this is a common thing with some Reproduction carts so I'm looking to replace it. I was wondering if anyone knew where I can get a FF3 Repro that doesn't have the glitch? From what i've gathered if the game is reproduced incorrectly it'll have the glitch.

If anyone has any idea where I can get a good copy of it that would be awesome. I'd like to play the original FF3 on an NES and I'd like to try and keep from buying carts over and over until i get a good copy of it lol.

  • If you want a fake game why not just play a ROM for free for the experience?
  • I got mine from Clarky Creations on here, and it worked perfectly.
  • I was determined to get a cart copy of Mario Frustration (aka Mario Forever). I did -- bought one for myself and a buddy.

The hack simply cannot run properly on a cartridge for reasons I'm not absolutely sure. Specifically, there's one glitch that absolutely prevents you from beating the second level. That's $60 I'll never see again, for a hack that only has 4 levels, lol.

Emulation has its place. I beat Seiken Densetsu III (Secret of Mana 2) over five times via emulation. I bought a cartridge, and never put more than an hour into it. Food for thought.
  • Emulation is cool and all but there is just something more authentic about putting a game into a Nintendo and playing it with a Controller on your TV. I only like Reproduction carts when it comes to unreleased Famicom games and in some cases homebrews.

I'm just looking for a cart that is playable. I'll look into Clarky Creations and see what they got. Thanks for the tip.

I have a 153-in-1 multicart (called 100 Best Games) with FF3 and I've heard about this glitch so I've avoided playing FF3. How far in the game does the glitch occur? I'd give it a try if its not too many hours I'd be wasting.

  • It happens within the first 30 minutes of the game. You don't even make it to the second boss without it happening.
  • Challenge accepted.

Stupid Multicart. One random battle and the airship disappeared... just when this game was getting good! My Onionkids all grew up and were well equiped.

  • Yeah if the ROM is known to be shit I'd just emulate it and not spend money on it.
  • there's another thread around here that mentions the issue. there's supposedly a simple fix for it if you have the tools. if not theres probably someone around here willing to help.

is in a new repro board or a donor? not sure if that makes a difference.

does anyone around here have a save file leading up to that point? i'd like to check it out but i don't have much interest in playing through the game
  • Yeah, one random battle is all it took for the Airship to disappear on my cart too. At least it happens super early in the game so you can test it on a new save file and try again to make sure that it was always going to be the case. I was talking with a guy on Etsy about it and he says it's an easy fix and he can fix it for 5 dollars + shipping. So I may just do that. He says that his games won't do it if you buy one from him too. His also comes in a super cool white cartridge. So maybe I'll pick up a new one. I don't know.

The cart I got is a new one as far as I know. I bought the game a long time ago so I'm not 100% sure.
  • I've posted about this before when I bought a crappy Chinese FF3j with the glitch. After that headache I bought a really great new English repro from Leon Leon Kiriliuk that works like a charm. But I don't know if he still makes repros these days.
  • A flashcart gives you the best of emulation and that authentic hardware experience. I beat FF3 a couple of years ago on an EverDrive and had a blast. It keeps the challenge there if you can't use save states.
  • It's the only Final fantasy before 12 that I haven't beaten yet. It looks like a pretty good game. I played it on emulation way back in 2001 but I ended up having to reformat my computer before I could beat it. I'd like to beat it and I'd like to get a cart to make my NES collection look bigger at the same time.

I ended up buying a replacement from the guy on Etsy. The white cartridge looked pretty cool and I like getting color reproduction carts. I have a reproduction of the SNES Sailor moon RPG in a Pink cartridge. I still need to get around to beating that game too.
