Grade for games

Hello all. I'm just starting out on here. I noticed there is a way to grade the condition of your games as you add them to your collection. I also have games I'd like to trade or sell and I want to be as accurate as possable with those.

My question is - is there a general sytem that is used for grading? I know there is for comic books.

Thank you.

    mint.. perfection

minor cart / label damage ... OK

scratched carts / label .. well

sticker stains all over ... duh

    the smell of it?

just describe the game/item actual condition as accurate as you can
  • Dont use the word "minty" or people get mad

I'm gonna start releasing Homebrews with a sprig of mint inside the box.

Hey Gloves, put me down for one of the limited editions where you put something a little more potent in the box instead...

Wanna get me a whiff of that Canadian dank!
  • I always label games "meh, they're okay condition" or "Acceptable" even if they're in pristine condition, solely because condition's subjective. People could bitch about a microscopic germ scraping it's ass on the surface of a game sometimes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say.
  • Broke - Poor - Average - Excellent - Mint

Mint - Flawless unless you really look for it.

Excellent - Has little to no visible shelf wear

Average - Has some shelf wear.

Poor - Has Major shelf wear.

    Broken - Non functional.

Any damage that can be reversed like markers, stickers, and odor is not a factor for me.
  • How I usually grade items.

    1-2 Poor

    3-4 Fair

    5-6 Good

    7-8 Very Good

    9 Near Mint

    10 Mint
  • I always believe there should be a garby grade, where a game is really shitty or beat up, you should drill it straight into the garby

put a cheap fake gem in there too, so you can call it GEM MINT!

  • There's no established grading system for games yet. The most popular grading company doesn't publish grading standards, and the one that publishes standards just started. Pictures are the only thing that tell the story when selling something. Some people care about surface scratches, some people don't want any minor nicks on the label, some people are concerned with the slightest crushing or edge wear in boxes. There's no great way to describe it quickly in words.

Yeah just pour some hot mint tea on it and call it a day
  • This is not my personal scale, but rather what the majority of ebay sellers use today:

Excellent - Has little to no visible wear.

Excellent - Has some minor wear.

Excellent - Has major wear, but still functional.

Excellent - Non functional, but whole.

Excellent - Only contains some pieces of the original item.

Yeah, ebay doesn't have this functionality natively. I usually have to include a note in the item description "Note: this item is in such poor condition, that as soon as you receive it, please drill it directly into the garby. Sold as-is, no returns. No international shipping." Or maybe you can offer to drill it right in your own garby as soon as you receive payment.

It would be great if VGA gave Paul's Mario submissions a garby grade. "This piece is determined to be garbage. Please contact us if you would like further information on where to drill it."
