Nice find, can imagine the owner was pretty shocked when he learned the value
The actual owner is in jail, and needs money apparently, so contacted his brother (OP on Reddit) and basically said "sell the shit in this storage unit for me". The NWC was in the storage.
I haven't read the thread. Just thinking it would be a travesty if the storage unit contained stolen goods.

That was my first concern. If someone buys it then it turns out to be stolen, it'd be forfeit and they'd not get their money back.

Agreed. They shouldnt touch this cart or my sister without requiring a solid backstory... (dirty)
We have a list of known competitors. Just ask for the guys ID and if his last name doesn't match any of the known competitors then there's some fishy things going on.
If someone had lost an NWC, we would probably have heard about it by now, surely! And if someone had this stolen from them without them realising what they had, chances are they never will realise what they've lost anyway. AND, even if they do figure it out down the line, it'd be quite the task to prove that.
Besides, just cause this guy's in jail, doesn't mean he's a thief! Could just be a pedo or whatever...

I LOL’d. ...HARD. Almost ROFL’d.
Yeah, maybe the guy really needs it. Might not even deserve what’s happening to him, considering what’s going on in the world today (people getting fined and threatened jail time for taboo jokes or incarcerated for years over recreational drugs). Don’t want to judge too harshly without knowing the situation.
New Youtube video on this. Looks legit and they say private offers are up to $23k. I hope it goes to public auction for my voyeuristic pleasure though. The guy also says his brother wasn't a finalist. And they jam it into toaster NES while the label is peeling, I mean, it probably didn't cause much damage, but seriously doing that to a 5 digit game?

Really nice of MetalJesus to not focus on why they're selling the cartridge. Not too many people would pass up on the opportunity to make a video more juicy.
Another sign that there are more than the 90 finalist copies floating around. I've heard more than one account of people getting a copy from an event employee.

Another update, it turns out the brother is in jail for stealing a rare Nintendo tape from some kind of competition in 1990. (Although seriously, there were so many more made than were given to finalists, SOME of them had to escape into the wild via funny business right?)

NWC Finalist found dead in Seattle decades after contest; his identity had been stolen by his murderer who landed himself in jail for life on charges for possession of marijuana.

If i was there back then, i would have been an entrepreneur of this funny business you speak of. lol

GOD that toaster bit killed me. He does mention the NA offer up on here, so there's still hope!

I made a chart of NWC copies that I know of.
This chart contains a total of 71 known copies, 58 of which I visually confirmed using pictures on the internet and the other 13 I have no photos of.
Let's assume that 90 games were in finalist hands, 2 known nintendo employee copies, and the two ugly copies (Infamous Mario copy, and the even worst condition nameless copy) make 94 copies. Let's also assume that 26 copies and ONLY 26 copies were destroyed to make NWC Gold in Nintendo Power.
That means even assuming that no other copies ever got out then there are a minimum of 120 copies that are accounted for in some way, out of what I believe is only 350 copies to ever be made.
I also noticed that there might have been some sort of ability to select your copy since there are a disproportionate amount of copies that end with 5, and 0.
Here is my chart. The items in Green are copies I visually confirmed from pictures on the internet, Yellow are ones I've heard about but don't have a picture of, and Red are the ones confirmed to be Nintendo employee former copies.
Edit: Just realized my math is wrong since the 2 ugly copies can actually be potential NWC competitor copies...so 118 copies definitely accounted for.
205 is Pat Contri's copy. He's definitely got pictures up.
Yep, I had it marked down wrong because I just made the picture version of this chart. I have a video of his cart so I technically didn’t have a picture and didn’t mark it down!
I remember that dude paid the Nolans 17k for one of these as an investment for His daughter's college down the line and everyone here, including me, laughed at his expense. Dunderheads, the lot of us.
Also, Jason (DreamTR) is a fucking genius. Dude is like the nostradamus of the retro gaming and arcade market.
Do you guys think that a certain volume of this cart appearing will start to bring the cost DOWN? like say over the next 5 years another 100 unknown copies entered the market. Is that forcing the price down? Or is the hype and demand so high that it wouldnt matter?

It was sold to Pink Gorilla in Seattle
Check out @MetalJesusRocks';s Tweet: https://twitter.com/MetalJesusRocks/status/11041259553568030...

Still in the game, Gamerboy! Good luck!
Thanks,I will inform the community if I score this ..

I was cringing when I saw it in the toaster NES too.

Video isnt working for me. Region problems.
$23K offer really, and with a peeled label? Only like 5 years ago you could get it sub $10K without too much of a problem.
Yeah, but 5 years ago you could still get a $4k Stadium Events too.
For about the last year or so this thing has shot up and stayed up.
