What the heck is up with my search results?

So, I've just been searching for news about Captain Marvel, because I'm thinking about seeing it. I search it on Google and all the top results are from this really dodgy seeming website called Cosmic Book News.

All the articles on Cosmic Book News about the movie are MRA trolling bullshit about how all fans hate Captain Marvel and it's going to tank the whole MCU etc. Why is this happening? I've never even heard of this website and it's like all the top results. I tried to search for a way to block the website from my search and I couldn't figure out how to do it.

So... I guess all my movie news is right wing propaganda from now on? Thanks Google!

  • Might be your browser. I got the news about Stan Lee's cameo, the Disney/Marvel site, the IMDB page, and the Rotten Tomatoes page in that order.
  • Oh, here's some screenshots btw, just to show what I mean.

I'm unsure how to fix it? I'm on my phone, it's just the Chrome app I always use to browse.
  • Dots on the upper right of Chrome, History, clear data. That might help. Though it may log you out of some sites.

Right, I did that and it definitely did SOMETHING as I was logged out of NA, and all my history is wiped... But my search results stayed the same, unfortunately.

I get the same as you.

Oof. Might try a malware scanning app to see if there isn't some nasty redirecting your browser.

Hey, that's not it AT ALL!

    The porn was first!
  • Include in your search terms the url you don't want, preceded by a minus sign. Such as

    captain marvel -comicbooknews.com

That will exclude the site from results. It doesn't fix or explain the problem, but you can find what you want in the meantime.

What happens if you use a different search engine?

There's another search engine? Only joking!

I googled it on Bing and then I googled it again on Yahoo. Both of those were normal, like the other posters above said. The website, the IMDb, Wikipedia, normal news sites, just like that... Seems like maybe Google's algorithms are screwing me over for some reason?
  • Just got back from Miss Marvel, btw! Really enjoyed it, really good film. Would recommend!
  • Google is now all encompassing.

Hahaha, saying that you googled it on a non-Google site actually made me lol at how ubiquitous the verb "google" is
  • Microsoft tried to get people to call searching the web "Binging." It ... didn't take.
