8bitdo Retro Receiver for NES $4.99 @ Fry's Electronics

Check availability at your nearest store:

https://www.frys.com/product/8931523

I cleaned-out both of the Fry's stores in Georgia to get 10 of them. Even when they were $20+, I liked to include one as a surprise freebie whenever I sell a system with the Hi-Def NES upgrade. If you live near a Fry's Electronics store, grab 'em! You won't regret it. I'll buy any extras you pick up

Check behind the NES/SNES Classic Edition Retro Receivers. One store had most of their NES Retro Receivers hidden there. The NES/SNES CE Retro Receiver is also on clearance for $12.xx

These things are really great and 8bitdo just keeps making them better with firmware updates. They support practically any Bluetooth controller you can think of:

- All 8bitdo Bluetooth controllers

- PS4 DualShock 4

- PS3 DualShock 3 (I believe pairing requires a PC)

- XBOX One controller (Bluetooth version)

- Wii Remote

- Wii U Pro controller

- Switch Joy Cons

- Switch Pro Controller

You can also connect it to a PS3 or PC (or just about anything else with a USB port) and use it as a receiver for all of those controllers.

  • These were easily worth $20. Only reason they didn't sell was because it was hard to convey what it actually does with that packaging.

Every place selling them really needed an NES on demo with a DualShock 4 or Wii Remote sync'd up!
  • Damn, I'd buy em up at that price.

I'm preparing another package for you with a few things I wanted to send along before

If anyone lives near a Fry's Electronics that still has a bunch of these, I'd love to buy all of them. Even when I was spending $20+ on these I liked to include one as special surprise freebie when I sell a Hi-Def NES system.

  • If I can get away, I might check out the two Frys near me. I got a busy week, though.

    Yay!!!! :-)

  • Dang no online sales. Why is Georgia hogging up all the fry's? I can't even find a RadioShack in NC anymore that don't just cellphones.

Actually California hogs the most. I think there's eight or so between LA and San Diego alone.

  • Ahhh. I see. GA closest to me anyway
  • And Ichinisan already got them all.

  • Mine has 6 in store. Guess I'll just get 1 or 2. Thanks for the heads up. Pretty neat little thing.
  • The store next to me is stacked.
  • Wait the site is doing something funny. There are 2 right next to me, and another 14, but they are 20 miles away. Meh.
  • I'll offer anyone $20 + shipping for a 2 pack of em if interested...

  • I don't have time to drive out to that frys during the week, but if they are still there this weekend I might be able to grab them. I'll let you all know.
  • Great deal wish I could take advantage of that and a really nice surprise too for hidefnes kit upgrades.
  • Ichinisan only mentioned one thing we might do with extras but he didn't mention...

    A) We've even given away one of our personal units with the intention of getting another

    B) I intend to convert some to SNES and deck out a modded multi-tap with them.

    C) We might do the same with an NES 4Score or Satellite.

I was just bemoaning the expense in that thread about multitap compatibility! Now the price is right and we do have extras taps.

I don't know for sure if it's possible to convert these to SNES but the NES and SNES controllers are electrically compatible. The only difference between the NES version and the SNES version should be the physical connection and the firmware. If it's possible to put the SNES RetroReceiver firmware on the NES RetroReceiver then the rest should be a matter of wiring them up internally to the multitap and then adding a power source (console alone usually can't power them all at once).
  • Would it work with that NES style JoyCon that Nintendo released for the Switch? That would be pretty awesome, using what is essentially an OFFICIAL 1st party bluetooth NES pad with your toaster NES!
  • Not sure, since it predates that controller it would have had to be added in a FW update, which is not unprecedented. They added Switch support to other products, like the NES30 Pro. It's something Ichinisan asked me about when making the list in the OP and we agreed to leave it out because we weren't sure without updating FW and checking. We'll see!

That said, it definitely works with and original controller that has 8bitDIY installed from 8bitdo, so you can definitely use an original controller that way.
  • No Fry's in my area either.

Any chance you want to part with 1 or 2 of them?

It supports Joy Cons. It was added with a firmware update shortly after the Switch launched. I looked that up before I created the thread.

Just ordered the NES Switch Joy-Con double pack. I'll try them and let you know if it works. Pretty sure they'll work fine
