Sounds like elitist talk to me....nobody’s Collection is better than Andy’s. Hand down! The best there is, the best there, was the best there ever will be. That’s all I hear from this paragraph......
CNN online had a brief mention of this after some real news. To quote the end of the hard hitting report:
"Maybe you think he's a legend like Zelda to have all that Metal Gear sitting around his house. If his Final Fantasy or Call of Duty was to have a world of software-craft creating a Mass Effect, his Goldeneye for collecting his one Guinness Mari-over (??) even if it's gala-gotta have taken him longer than a Fortnite to build such a super galaxy of titles. It's no Bioshock that dude's got game ya'll."
CNN being in touch with the kids yo.
Great Tyler... Now my eyes have cancer from reading that sentence, and my brain has rickets... Geezus!
I think what people have to understand here are numbers...
You can't count PC games or doubles, so that's out, but when you look at how many games were released in North America, the number he has is deceptively close to "every game ever released in North America" but the problem is there is no breakdown of the titles.
I also don't see imports here and the highlight of the collection being Buster Douglas? He has a lot of the current stuff and I am sure the PS stuff and up is CIB and what not, but the key is what the qty total is for each system breakdown. I can easily breakdown mine so you know what I have and where my numbers come from with no doubles...I am really curious to see this because even talking about Last Gamer, you get into the 25K-30K realm there isn't much more to collect, I mean there are probably 40K games released ever for all console worldwide, maybe 45K I have no idea but I highly doubt you see that because people aren't breaking these down. Does the new record holder have piles of loose NES games instead?
So if there is a new #1 is this because the old record holder stopped collecting?
No, it's because Guinness doesn't keep active track of their records. If you think you've got the most games, you contact Guinness, they come round and count. If you've got more than the last guy, you're the new record holder. If the last guy doubles his collection, the only way he's getting the record back is by contacting Guinness again.
- I'm guessing his collection was focused more on quantity rather than genuine rare items collecting. He chose to talk about a rare SMS game (Buster Douglas) which isn't very impressive compared with the rarest SNES/NES games.
- for a record breaking collection to fit inside a house, I'm guessing there has to be lots of loose carts within this collection?
- if he set out to topple the record in largest gaming collection, then kudos to him!
- if he set out to impress the masses then it seems a bit underwhelming with a 2 minute news footage and no other social media trumpeting and no flashing of mega rare items!
As an extension to the last point above, it seems more and more likely for anyone to own the largest collection, it would be quickest and cheapest to target the thousands of shovelware crap amongst modern disc games from Wii and beyond.

I mean, it's a human interest piece thrown together by a local news channel. He may have had very little input as to what shelves ended up on the evening news. JBD is a good item to have, and may have just been the closest rare he could pull off the shelf to show off when they asked him to. Additionally, to Johnny Q Public, shelves and shelves of Wii games could be more impressive than a complete NES collection. They don't know or care like we do. They just see VIDJA GAMES!!! And not the cost or effort it takes to put collections together. He's clearly a fairly private collector, since no one seems to have heard of him.
Being a Nintendo Forum, many members expect to see the classics " NES/SNES/GB" in a collection.
With that in mind, when I saw this video I was expecting to see the full set of nes, snes etc.. as you would think it is needed especially if he would have a World record. But the video did not show it.
All I saw was a hoarders collection of any and everything.
It's Dangerous enough being a collector.
Even worse a hoarder with a goal to reach a record.
I just hope he's mentally stable, this hobby is not for the unstable.
Otherwise he's gonna be buying a ton more of those sports games.
What, come on, there's plenty of wall left. Easily another 500 games in the background there.
I think the ceiling is slightly slanted inwards so he can't easily put shelves up. At least I choose to believe that with the stack he has from the floor to the ceiling elsewhere.

Considering how much money he has spent on brand new games, he could hire a carpenter for a day to custom make something out of pine boards. But nobody here seems to be praising his critical thinking skills anyway.

There's a lot of people shitting on this guy in this thread which I think is unwarranted given the small amount of data we have to go on. We all know how much local news channels hone their reporting skills with those hard hitting pieces on water skiing squirrels and local polka bands. Definitely warrants the "I can't see Stadium Events; he must take it up the butt" posts.

Agreed.
He might have shown all kinds of cool rare cart based stuff, it just got cut out on the editing room floor. The news channel isnt going to tailor the piece to the hard core retro collecting crowd.
Perhaps this news segment is being broadcast in from some random alternate dimension where James Rolfe was pecked to death by giant birds before AVGN took off, and thus the retro bubble never happened...
In this bizzaro world, key documentation of all the cool and rare games was lost to time, and apparently no specimens of NES, SNES or N64 survived to the present day, chucked straight in the garby. As a result, the record of world's most video games holds abut as much cultural significance as world's fluffiest kitten.
Would certainly explain the total social media blackout on this guy... He's rocking a sweet looking Geocities site and updating his MySpace page on Earth 1337!

I agree completely, except for the fact that not owning SE means you take it up the butt.
Plenty of collectors here have SE and probably take it up the butt.

Kudos to this guy for having an awesome collection. I would be happy visiting and looking through 20,000+ games...

Am I on crazy pills or something, or is everyone bashing the guy for having a big game collection on a forum known for having big game collections....
Some comments might be over the top but I think there is some merit to questioning the achievement of this collection.
Remember that this is a collection that’s wanting global attention by making contact with Guinness Records, as opposed to a collection that is remaining private. If wanting the attention, then I agree with the general line of questions:
- why only a 2 minute clip of general shelves of games, without showing anything really “meaty” and nothing else can be found on the internet about the guy or his collection?
- is there really much point in owning a “largest collection of video games” when there is no mention of the systems and the games involved?
There needs to be more context to the collection. Otherwise, it’s kind of like me saying I own the most cars in the world. Then when enquired further, I proceed to tell you that all my cars were bought from the scrapyard and most of them don’t work!
The record is for a bit over 20,000 games right? (20,139 games according to Guinness themselves)
The video shows a library consisting of the following:
Nintendo
- Gamecube
- Wii
- DS
Sony
- PlayStation
- PlayStation 2
- PlayStation 3
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation Portable
- PlayStation Vita
Sega
- Master System
- Genesis
- Sega CD
- 32X
- Saturn
- Dreamcast
- Game Gear
Microsoft
- Xbox
- Xbox 360
- Xbox One
Other
- Atari Jaguar
- Phillips CD-i
- Nokia N-Gage
Let's assume he has complete sets of modern systems, and Sega/PS/Xbox since it seems like that's his thing.
Simply using GameValueNow's counts:
The Sony Library is about 6500 physical titles large right now.
The Microsoft Library is about 3000 physical titles large right now.
The Gamecube / Wii / Wii U / DS / 3DS libraries hovers at around 4000 physical titles right now.
The Sega Library is about 1750 titles large.
Jaguar, N-Gage, and CD-i add another 250 or so.
That's only about 15,500 titles. So just what we can gather and assume from the video, he's about 4500 titles short.
Well, obviously the world records aren't going to let that fly so where else can he gather 4500 titles?
For fun, let's add the entire Lynx,7800,and 5200 libraries and maybe the majority of the 2600 library and we've only added another say 600 titles? Still need 3900 more.
Now let's add NGPC, and Neo Geo CD for another 100...still need 3800 more. Someone who collects AES will want to DISPLAY that stuff front and center...so it's safe to assume he has a few titles there at most.
He didn't seem like a pre-8bit collector. But even if he weren't we can safely assume there might be some TG-16/CD, 3DO, Game.Com, and LaserActive in there. That's another 350 titles. 3450 short still.
OK, so he doesn't collect nintendo but still needs 3450. We now need to assume he likes pre-8bit stuff so let's add the older consoles too then. Coleco/INTV/Odyssey/Vectrex adds another 350 or so. So we're still 3100 short.
We're all out of consoles and still 3100 games short.
But what if he collected Nintendo?
NES - 768
SNES - 722
N64 - 296
GB - 505
GBC - 445
GBA - 1021
That's 3757 titles. Giving him about 500 titles too many for the record...but I don't think he has 100% complete sets of everything.
Well we've solved the mystery folks. Game Collector Collects Nintendo. shocking af. I guess he doesn't have signs and nintendo cabinets and an arcade machine or two making his entire collection invalid. Can't forget the lack of a rare and valuable shrine/shelf.

That is the big kicker, we are talking strictly NA titles but not imports. Does not look like he has a lot of imports. Game Gear collection I can see is loose, but unknown what exactly he has vs not have. Either he has a lot of doubles or people can't count or he has a lot of imports because I have struggled to get more games mainly because I don't collect Sony stuff much and I have hundreds of games for those and I have been around 18K-19K for years and I do have nearly everything complete that came out for all systems except for PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, XBOX One, XBOX 360, PSP, Vita....I can literally go to my store and grab tons for filler but I have specifically kept away from those except for a few hundred for each.
Comments
I think I need to start counting my collection. Would take many weeks. Na nevermind I enjoy just having it
Mine's easy since I...
1) Don't have TOO many games, and
2) Keep track on Backloggery of my physical games
I have 439 games total (all CIB), give or take maybe 5 that I could have forgotten buying or selling.
CNN online had a brief mention of this after some real news. To quote the end of the hard hitting report:

Apart from the rare games he’s missing he does have a lot of priceless items in his collection.
In a video he posted he says he has more games still in storage that are not accounted for.
I cant believe MJR try asking lastgamer for money to plug lastgamer’s YouTube channel on his hahahahahaha.
Never forget, MJR wanted $50k to go on an all-expense paid vacation.
Lol, this video is just... so ridiculous.
This video killed my soul.
OK, well...
The record is for a bit over 20,000 games right? (20,139 games according to Guinness themselves)
The video shows a library consisting of the following:
Nintendo
- Gamecube
- Wii
- DS
Sony
- PlayStation
- PlayStation 2
- PlayStation 3
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation Portable
- PlayStation Vita
Sega
- Master System
- Genesis
- Sega CD
- 32X
- Saturn
- Dreamcast
- Game Gear
Microsoft
- Xbox
- Xbox 360
- Xbox One
Other
- Atari Jaguar
- Phillips CD-i
- Nokia N-Gage
Let's assume he has complete sets of modern systems, and Sega/PS/Xbox since it seems like that's his thing.
Simply using GameValueNow's counts:
The Sony Library is about 6500 physical titles large right now.
The Microsoft Library is about 3000 physical titles large right now.
The Gamecube / Wii / Wii U / DS / 3DS libraries hovers at around 4000 physical titles right now.
The Sega Library is about 1750 titles large.
Jaguar, N-Gage, and CD-i add another 250 or so.
That's only about 15,500 titles. So just what we can gather and assume from the video, he's about 4500 titles short.
