I agree which is why I do not watch them anymore.  Last one I saw was Dark Knight Returns.  But this looks good.  Don't wanna get my hopes up though.

  • I hope so, but I am not holding my breath on it being good. Thus far the last Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy was the only ones I have cared to rewatch, But I did like Suicide Squad (Unrated) too.. Superman went to shit after Reeves, *trails off on tangent*
  • I will still watch it, but I haven't enjoyed a DC film since Batman Begins. I am only so-so on Dark Knight. It is like Momento, good for one watch then after that the mystery and wow factor are gone.
  • I will watch this Joker movie. Hopefully this is a heck of a movie.
  • Mmmmm... I don't want to say it but there's a chance this could be really good. I assume this is just a Joker back story without much or any) Batman. I saw the first teaser, which was just this guy arguing with a manager who was a clown. I thought it was just to boring/odd to get my attention. They tried to hard on that trailer.

This, though. Compassion for the bad guy gets that's done well get's me every time. Granted, he's about to become a homicidal maniac but the build up to that might be gut wrenching.
  • So instead of falling into a vat of chemicals, Gotham just f's with him to the point of insanity? Sounds compelling!
  • Boooorriiiiiing, how much more can they over-saturate this character to death?

Is this really the only villain they have?
  • I was very cautious about this one, but this last trailer got me sold.

It will be a good drama. Can't wait to watch it!
  • Laaaaaame

Also, you can't dye dark hair like that. You have to bleach it first.
  • I was a DC fan as kid, so it pains me to see what most of the DC movies have been over the past few years. I was, and still am a huge fan of the Nolan Batman trilogy, but I haven't seen anything from DC movie wise that I have any interest in.

If it was an original character and not the Joker, it sounds pretty good.

I'll go see it mainly just to see how it stacks up. Not too much as a Joker movie, but something on it's own.

I dunno, I'm weird with movies. This may be random, but I actually enjoyed Suicide Squad. lol At least the Joker in that had the chemical vat substory to it.

Remind me not to go to a Subway in Canada then. lol

  • Oh, I think I got the majority of the story just from the trailer alone.

Joker lives with his disabled mother who early on in the film dies in an extremely traumatizing way. He's the sole provider of the household and does odd jobs to get by, he probably wants to be an actor or comedian (given the comedy club scene) and his roles are usually clown-like in nature, down to the obvious clown in the street job. He's constantly tormented by people around him, stranger or "friend" and he hates society.

There's clearly a big event that he goes to, so it's probably a Wayne Enterprises event and after being tormented one last time that is the final straw.

He kills Bruce Wayne's parents on their way home from the event, fully manifesting himself into the Joker. That young boy he's playing with and forcing a smile? That's the young Bruce Wayne who just won't smile or laugh at a silly little clown...

    Boom.

Edit: Also, lots of people like the Joker for some reason. Maybe everyone hates the wayne family and he's a beloved "hero"? as the trailer says "What kind of coward would do something that cold blooded, someone who hides behind a mask"

Edit 2: He's a clown to cheer up the inmates at Arkham. Also, the flowers he's holding in his hands in the hallway scene are now in young bruces hands when the Joker forces him to smile.

Edit 3: He's writing jokes for the inmates at about 0:23. The only legible one is...

"The worst part about having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you don't."

Dude gains the trust of all the inmates, escaped them, and wreaks havoc on Gotham. He also has four jokes above this one....

    why did the old

    insomneea?

    half to sleep with

    why are poor

    confusd? because

    any cents

(probably about about poor people being confused with mentally ill people since the punchline says "cents")

    how many time did

    what did the

    to the str?it

    loosen up a little.

(Proabably about a straight jacketed patient asking to be loosened up a little)

    Edit Whatever:

One of the signs the masked people in the subway stations are holding up say

    "Anti-?????

    Anti-Capitalist

    A Job is a right

    Capitalism does

    not work for you!"

Others say "demand" and "revolt/revolution" and "condemn/conman" and yet another says "Tax Th..." which can mean "tax this" or "tax the rich" or something to that degree.

Finally, another sign later on says "If you think greed is bad....???"

    ---

    Final Opinion:

This is totally a Joker vs. Wayne Enterprises story.
  • Watched this before logging in. Is this based on a certain Joker comic?

Not really. It sort of has a few things in common with Batman: The Killing Joke (mainly Joker's origin as a failed stand-up comedian), but I think they're going for something original.

  • Interesting! But what's the ending going to be? He becomes the joker? Or maybe he does some big evil thing and it shows him walking back home, smiling? No ending and just "ok now that's where the Joker came from, thanks for watching!" or a cliffhanger into another Batman reboot? Do they show Batman at the end? Or have we all seen the movie already from the trailer.
  • According to the Wiki page, Bruce Wayne is in the movie, as a little kid.

Is that the Batman universe that Joker has already been around for over a 1-3 decades when Batman starts fighting crime i don't know seems off to me

  • Not a fan of the trailer but rhopefully the movie is good
  • The color grading in DC movies is just so immediately offputting to me. Feels like I'm watching them underwater!

I have no idea. I don't think it's supposed to be any particular Batman universe.

I meant the general Batman interpretations out there I don't think there's ever been a storyline where the Joker is active and the Batman a kid but i might be wrong. They could've made some type of arc showing both Batman and Joker growing up and what eventually put each one of them onto their trajectory or something like that but what they're pulling off now with this DC version i have no idea. It would've made more sense that Bruce Wayne hasn't become Batman yet while the Joker is already active but there's no need for him to be a kid for that the scenario is already plausible.
  • Honestly it looks terrible. Maybe I'm just being closed minded but i'll Take Clooneys Batman movies over this garbage. What happened to Leto's Joker? Are they just letting that go? At least it was an original iteration of the character. This is just too real life and misses the whole premise of why people even like comics.

I can't think of a general storyline like that, either.

The first Tim Burton Batman had the dude who would become Joker killing Bruce Wayne's parents (instead of Joe Chill like in the comics), but he didn't become Joker until Bruce had become Batman.
