Picked Up My James Bond Comic Grail

This is a Finders Keepers story, but since it’s not game related, I figured it belonged here.

In addition to being a retro game lover and homebrew groupie, I am a massive James Bond fan. And yesterday I picked up something I’ve been chasing for years.

In 1996, Topps was all set to release it’s 3-part comic adaptation of Goldeneye by Don McGregor. Issue 1 went off without a hitch. However Issues 2 and 3 were ultimately cancelled, despite McGregor having mostly finished them. Wanting to show off his work, McGregor handed out a few autographed copies of the uncolored proofs for Issues 2 and 3 of Goldeneye at conventions. And yesterday I finally found a copy of Issues 2 and 3!

  • Congrats!!! Know it's a great feeling to find something you've been after for a long time. Glad to see you were able to acquire them. They look great!
  • very cool pickup. didn't even know Topps was one of the many publishers who has put out Bond comics!
  • What's interesting is that so many publishers have had the rights at some point. DC published Dr. No in the 60s, Marvel published For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy in the 80s, Dark Horse put out several original stories in the 90s, Dynamite has it now, and there was a daily strip for ages in the Daily Express. Like many other longstanding franchises, it's fun to see how different comic art styles depict iconic characters.
  • Fuckin' A those look amazing. LOVE the Xenia piece. Goddamn.
  • Well done.
  • WOW thats super cool
  • How bad was the damage to your wallet?
  • Not as bad you would you think. The seller was liquidating his entire Bond collection on eBay, but there wasn't any competition on most of his listings so I won this one on his starting bid.
