What are you NOT collecting?

  • Trains, those guys take things a bit too seriously
  • Ugh, I'm a man of many exceptions. There are plenty of general rules I have-- I don't collect X-Box, for instance, but even with the X-Box and X-Box there's RLH which is a game that has my initials so... I wanted it. I care nothing about the 3DO, but I want to get a copy of Myst for every device it came out for. The list seems to go on and on. Most of the really older systems (Atari, Intellivision, Colecovision, etc.) I actually would like to collect the systems and just have 1-3 good but cheap games just for the historical experience. Same for the NES/SMS generation, though I have more desire for the NES games. The mid-90s is my sweet spot. I'm not interested in completing all sets from that era, but there's a lot I want from about everything. After 2000, interest dwindles but, again, there's always one-offs.

Even Amiibos. I'm not at all interested in them, but I did manage to find a Cloud Strife (Player 2) in the bargain bin at Target years ago and being that I'm a FF VII fan, I bought it. I have no desire to let it go either. I guess I'm not at all interested in Skylander/Disney Infinity games and figurines so, I guess that's something. But, you know, even with Infinity, all I'd have to see is a Basil from The Great Mouse Detective and I'd "have to have it".
  • Everything, sold a couple years ago and didn't regret a single thing about it.

Just here for the pals now.
  • I'm currently working on my money collection.

    It's in your couch cushions.

Already checked there, definitely not in the couch.
    It fell behind the TV.

Nah, good idea but I just checked and that's a no go too. It's been missing for a few weeks now. It's looking grim

Empire stole it. It's at his house.

He says he only has my illegal model train parts. It's a real head scratcher.
  • A lot of you are missing out on a ton of great games by going exclusively Nintendo.
  • whats with the people not collecting nes!? best system ever
  • Easy games, Sports games, handhelds.
  • handhelds. Actually working on getting rid of that part of my collection. I never play them. They sit there. And most don't display well on a shelf if you don't have them CIB. Just not worth the space imo.
  • Pretty much pretty NES stuff.

The real question here is why would you own anything not CIB? ;o
  • I made the switch to cartridge-only a couple years past so anything CD-based doesn't interest me. Now I just do NES, SNES, SMS, Genesis and Neo Geo MVS - but space has decided the numbers.

You should see the condition of most of my paperwork, lol. Aside from that Rainbow Islands manual I sold you, most of mine is 4/10 or worse. And no, I didn't buy most of it like that.... i'm a walking hazard

I should not be allowed to collect CIB.
  • Hm...currently I'm not collecting for the rarer consoles (3DO, Neo Geo...so on and so forth.). Simply because I never find the games/consoles. I WANT to collect for them but I just can't.

Other then that...sports games (excluding console exclusives, NES/SNES/N64 and Atari 2600 ones). I hate sports games with a passion...there's a few that are...ok (Mario ones, or weird/wacky ones) but most are complete shit.
  • Right now I am collecting nothing. When I was collecting; NES, SNES, 64, GC, Wii, Wii U, PS1.
  • N64

I have a love hate relationship with the n64. I hate the controller and Think it hasn't aged too well. It was my second console ever after the genesis and I loved it back then.

It was the perfect system for me at the time. Having my friends over to play 4 player games. I have big nostalgia for it but I'm not big into these days.

I've bought and sold my n64 collection several times over the last ten years. Thinking I need to let it go and never collect for it again.

Been delving into Genesis lately and loving it. Also getting my Master System soon!
  • Interesting way to word the topic so I like that. This could get long but I don't want it to. I have every Nintendo console from NES to Cube, handheld from the first Gameboy through every revision including Light, one DSL and a New3DS, the Switch, and also a Virtual Boy. I also have the big model and the handheld model of Neo Geo, and from Japan a PC Engine, and from Sony a PS1.

The only thing I actively will buy for right now, and even that is limited is Virtual Boy and PS1. VB out of necessity online, PS1 almost exclusively locally at mainly thrifts and flea markets with an occasional mom and pop buy. Anything else I do not collect for right now, but I won't avoid any actual good deal, like 1/3, 1/2 or better the online pay out ebay will give as I'm not stupid or uninformed either.

I find this works best as it limits what does come in, and makes things a lot more fun in a less fun time. Around that most things I can play games on now has a flash kit with it to strongly help not slipping up and it works.
  • Currently having a lot of fun with gameboy via the Gamecube player and with Wii. Always rocking Diddy Kong Racing and Mario Tennis for 64.

I was never really into NES or SNES, and I've stopped looking completely. I see tons of commons for cheap again, but I don't have the room, nor desire beyond my childhood games I already re-acquired. I'm totally out on PS4/XBONE, anything Sega, and anything intentionally printed at a low number.
  • Collecting for me is more based on complete sets. Just buying some games for me well yea its adding to the collection but i dont feel like im really collecting the console.

So anything thats not NES, SNES, gameboy, Genesis, n64, atari jaguar, 32x, wii u.

I buy stuff for practically all other nintendo systems and ps1/ps2/ps3 and 360.

I dont touch vintage atari/intellivision. I dont really get anything for original xbox. I guess atari jaguar is the only oddball system i collect for.
  • Anything older than NES.

Any game on any system I deem as not a "good" game as far as gameplay. I collect games to play, not to just stick them on the shelf and never touch them again.

Essentially this. From past experience, games that demand a language I can't read are a waste.

You should check out the DS and 3DS. Also give the Wii a shot (ignore 99% of the crap library though lol)
  • Case in point. Wii is littered with disappointment, pun intended.

I'd mostly want it for platformers if I did collect it.

There is no denying that lol. BUT it does have some gems. Mario strikers charged, ivy the kiwi, geometry wars, fire emblem radiant dawn, and Mario kart Wii are some of my favorites.
