If I’m rare then can I grade myself? What’s the going rate for Phleos...am I walking into something right now?

I guess maybe I see thinks a little different then. Whether that’s good or not doesn’t really matter. But I wholeheartedly agree with the saving up bit. Even Stadium Events and NWC Grey has for the longest time been an item you can work your way to save up for.

$15-$20k might be a lot of bread, but it’s not exactly a whole lot of money to spend when you’re talking the pinnacle of a hobbyist item. Especially considering the next step down (Samson) is even less than a whole order of magnitude cheaper.

This "investment area" that seems to be trending in vintage games is mostly focused on sealed NES, from what I can tell. That is a niche group and many of us (myself included) are priced out of that.

I collect because I love gaming and have an appreciation for older games - their history and lore. Physical media is awesome. If the value of my collection was cut in half tomorrow or tripled in market value, it wouldn't make a difference to me. But I don't knock people who feel differently.

Well said. I'm not going to bother buying a sealed Mario Bros. for $50K because I think its a "good investment". I'm going to buy one loose like a savage and play it because I love gaming and also the history. That's not to say if I found a sealed Mario Bros. I wouldn't take advantage and sell it, because I would. Nothing sadder to me than a sealed game to be honest, they are meant to be played!

Whoever buys that from you wouldn't be opening it...you should open it if you want to make sure it gets played

    Haha hell no!

Sorry buddy, you should know by now I'm a man of loose moral fiber. You post a pic on NA, I at the very least have to.....remove your beard, and uhhh...I dunno, turn you into a Creed superfan or something.

  • Dude. I love Creed. You are my hero.
  • Arms not exactly wide open in that pic...
  • True story, the guitarist started messaging me wanting to buy some of my pinball art. I have his number on my phone somewhere , forget his name at the moment. He's big into bally Williams 90s machines, said he had 14 IIRC.   The art part didn’t work out but he’s a nice dude

Scott's the lead singer. Mark Tremonti (sp?) is the guitarist.

EDIT: Why the fuck did I know that...

That's awesome. I always see the Barenaked Ladies guy has a huge collection, he's deep into it. I know Slash has great taste in pinball. One of the guys from Anthrax did the soundtrack the new Black Knight, I'm not sure if he's into it. Music people are all over pinball machines.
  • That's it, Mark Tremonti. He was touring some bars in Europe with his new band when we were chatting.   Yeah you're right, lots of musicians.  Paul Stanley too. The main distributor for new machines in western Canada was in a minor hair metal band in the 80s and I used to talk with him. He said he got into it because whenever he was on the road, there was always a pinball machine there somewhere. There was always one around at the bar or wherever they popped into so it was part of road life

Only if we get you certified.

Interestingly, as a PS1/2 collector I have been noticing a fair few upticks, especially over the last few months. Maybe it's tax season money, maybe it's that people who grew up on the PS2 are coming into money. I've been trying to buy PS2 games I want quickly before they jump too much; a few months of waiting has cost me a chunk of change on a few titles.

I've been doing the same thing with PS2 buying up as many games as I can. Five years ago I found some awesome deals but now prices are climbing up. I was buying PS2 games when nobody wanted the stuff. I was finding games like Obscure for $12. I'm wrapping up collecting for the system. I have most of what I want. Just a few odds and ends left to get.
