i drink a bottle of energy drink (knock-off red bull) every night, just one because i like the taste and it keeps me awake a little longer.
friends of mine easily drink 5 bottles in a few hours and still get sleepy
as for the content of the drink:
- caffeine is an acetylcholine agonist, depending of the dose and time it can have two effects.. arousing your nervous system or calming it down
i.e. when you drink coffee in the morning or red bull in the evening, the Ach (acetylcholine) receptors are activated and your nervous system gets stimulated to be active
other substances that work like this, for instance nicotine, block the receptors and ease your nervous system.. thats why smokers start trembling when they didn't have their dose, the blocking stops and the nervous system starts to get agitated uncontrollably
as for the taurine in the drinks, it's a product dirived from the human bile. It's a substance that normally helps your liver to get rid of billirubin, a wasteproduct of blood.
those two are the main working substances and are not dangerous, unless overdosed / sensitive patient
