All Time Favorite Mega Man Game on NES

Hey, I just wanted to know what everyones favorite mega man game is on the NES console, with six to choose from. For me it is a virtual tie between 3 and 4. Four is the one I grew up with as a kid, lots of good memories. But three is epic, probably the hardest one to beat, and has some of the best musical scores ever for a video game. So let's hear your favorites and your reasons why.

  • By far 2 is the best, added a whole new feel to the game and really had the best bosses, plus Metal man's saw blades are the coolest and best weapon in the game, Megaman 2 is what made the Megaman series famous, when Megaman 1 first came out it only had a slight following, 2 skyrocketed the game into legendary status and has brough us more than 60 sequels.
  • 2 and 4 were always my favorites as a kid. 1 was too hard, and 3 was too scary for me! 5 and 6 came out after I had already moved on to the SNES.
  • The original is probably my favorite... I loved part 2, but I remember when it was new playing it and beating it when 24 hours, so it was my favorite..  part 1 gave me a challenge, Ice Man's stage took me weeks to beat, those darn platforms and slippery ice gave me fits...  Ohh the good old times...

  • I had #6 when I was a kid so #6 is my favorite. I used to know everything about that game.

I agree with this entirely. 2 followed closely by 1 for me. They're the only two Mega Man's where I found myself using all different weapons throughout the levels for the whole game, as opposed to MM 3-6 where the only point of each weapon seemed to be for a quick boss kill on someone (even though by this time they had made the megabuster strong enough to kill most any boss with ease by itself).

As strange as it sounds, 3 and 4 are the low point in the NES series for me, with 5 and 6 being a bit of an upswing.
  • 2 hands down IMO. Then 1, 3, 6, 4, & 5

  • Well, let's put it this way now. Which Mega Man game is the hardest to beat? For me it was number 3, it took me weeks just to beat shadow man, he's a bitch. Then after that, you have to beat all the bosses from mega man 2 again! The final boss leaves you almost dead every single time you get that far. I had to put massive amounts of effort into beating that one, and I still have only beaten it once. As for the rest of the games, it took me no more than a couple days to beat them. Personally, I feel that the games in the middle of the series is when it was at it's prime, which is why numbers three and four are my favorites. The slide is introduced in 3, and the mega buster is introduced in 4. It is interesting how the series evolved from being very simple, to eventually getting to be too much in 5 and 6 with BEAT and some of the other stuff. But overall it's still my favorite series on NES, does anyone else have this many sequels? And they just have to make a movie out of this series some day, it would be bad-ass.
  • 5 is the hardest to beat for me. I have the version that has a glitch in it and it freezes up after you get so far in the game. I really need to pick me up a new copy, it is the only one I haven't beaten.

  • i'm also going to go with 2
as far as hard I'll say 3
  • Rank-wise for the classic series in order:

    NES only
    2, 3, 5, 4, 1, 6

    Entire classic series
    2, 3, MM&Bass, 5, 7, 4, 8, 1, 6

The games at the lower tier aren't really BAD, just not as good as the others.
  • 6 is my personal favorite
  • Megaman 2. The series got a bit repetitive for me after that.
