  • Wow, those are definately not the top 5 hardest games for the system image
  • wtf?

The act of throwing one's controller was first documented in 1987 by a young player from Omaha, who happened upon a toothy Mike Tyson for the first time in "Punch-Out." True story. Sure, the game tricks you into thinking you can become the world's heavyweight champion early on, with beatable wussies like Glass Joe and Don Flamingo. But once you get to the final fight with Mike Tyson, your dreams will be shattered. He cannot be beat. Nintendo even said so.
  • wow. that is complete crap.
  • Umn... dude's he has Contra on the list... can anyone NOT beat that game with the 30 lives?
  • lol, what about silver surfer? they're only going to pick games that were popular, ones that people know and remember, just to be commercial. This is by no means a real "top 5 list."
  • yea this list is stupid.

everyone knows that the hardest 5 games for the nintendo were

    super mario 1

    super mario 2

    super mario 3

    excitebike

    tetris
  • ehh, nevermind
  • haha funny enough, that was in my head when i pressed the post button. i also was thinking about videomation and the fisher price games
  • Disagree with most of them, but in all honestly I could never get past the speederbike level on battletoads.
  • Battletoads should be on the list for sure. But damn where is Ghost 'N Goblins or Adventures of Bayou Billy?
  • Umm... Why the fuck is MSNBC even DOING this?

Okay... Paperboy's screenshot is arcade, not NES... And while I haven't beaten Battletoads, I HAVE gotten to the last stage. Which is more then I can say for Ghosts 'n Goblins. (I can't get past the half way point of level 2!) Gah, this list sucks. They paid someone to write this?!
  • Being able to successfully go through the speedbike level on Battletoads was one of my greatest video game achivements. However, there is another part much later on that I could never get past, especially because I would be very low of lives by then.
  • My thoughts:

Bionic Commando: The bionic arm's EASY to use! I can understand this problem back in '88, but come on!

Paperboy: Wow. I get to dine with the president!image

Contra: Tosh. I can beat level one without dying on a good day, and there are supposedly many who can beat the whole game without losing a life.

Punch-Out!!: Can't be beat? Nintendo said so!? What kind of news service are you!? Mike Tyson can indeed be beat. The ending is just not worth the time it takes.image

Battletoads: Wow, I actually AGREE with this one! That bike race is distilled "Fuck you!"

MSNBC, with a score of 1/5, you flunk NES 101!
  • The bike race gets REALLY easy when you learn it though. I could hit the warp zone in it every time when I was a kid. I remember having more trouble with the giant snake level.
  • ah fluff news. it almost makes blogging look legitimate. image
  • Bayou Billy was one of the first things that came to mind for me as well. Hate that game.
  • I always found Snake Rattle n' Roll the hardest of my collection. Never made it past level 11, and it's just about impossible without the warp to 8.
  • Ummmmm why isn't Ghost 'N Goblins on this list.....
  • Ummm - when was The Bionic Commando EVER a plumber with a pipe?

image They spelled Flamenco wrong . I think when I was 5 I called him Flamingo too though.
  • Paperboy wasn't that tough, I'd get to wed, thurs a lot.

    and what about castlvania??

    I'd say

    Ghost n goblins

    Castlevania

    Friday the thirteenth

    Addams Family

    Donkey Kong/Pac man?

When was Bionic Commando ever hard?  There are only 2 or 3 difficult parts in the entire game.

    (1)  Level 6 - the series of ball-throwing strong men.  Usually it's not that tough, but if you have a bad day those guys are brutal.

    (2)  Level 10 - navigating the fire and having to swing-release-repeat to successively higher anchor points.

    (3)  The escape - running into that last damn giant while being timed
  • I literally beat Bionic Commando the second time I played it and Contra isnt that hard with or without the code.

It's funny how different games are hard for different people.  I can beat Friday the 13th everytime without losing a counselor or a camper kid.  Then again I love this game and go in and beat it about every couple months.  Just like with Punisher for NES and MTPO.  Certain games I will always play over and over.  image  And Baseball Stars gets played every month just for fun as well since I already have my team with all 90/90 players and all 90/90 pitchers on both hitting and pitching ability.  Wish I could take my team online.  LOL
