EDIT: According to wikipedia:
"On June 2, 2009, Steve reached a score of 923,400 points at E3 2009
during his first attempt that day. On his second attempt, he reached
653,700. A third attempt was interrupted by a brief power failure.
After power was restored, Wiebe made a fourth attempt in which he
reached 989,400 points before the kill screen ended his final attempt.
These attempts were broadcast online via G4TV."
Guess not
I don't really understand what Steve was thinking the last game. When he reached the last screen, he still had another life. He could have purposely killed himself on the previous barrel stage to milk a lot more points.
Maybe he just wanted to show the world a kill screen, and needed an extra life to ensure he'd get there? If so, he's a pretty selfless guy.
I watched Steve the entire day. I don't have much of a life. But I can now say I've seen a Donkey Kong kill screen live.

That's an interesting thought. This is the only kill screen to be widely broadcast live.
Yeah, Steve played it a lot safer on the last run and skipped some point pressing opportunities because that is some of what killed him early the previous couple games. So he gets to the end of the game very alive (with an extra couple guys) but just a bit too low on points. Still though... what the hell? I love DK and play it regularly and he makes it look so easy.
I hope someone recorded the stream or that G4 will have it archived... I'd love to watch it again at my leisure
