Who is gadget516?

Anyone know this guy on ebay? He used to outbid me on everything and has been out of my hair for a while but just beat me on another auction. I searched his bidding and he has literally not lost an auction this month. He bid on 734 auctions and won them all. Geez....

  • Holy shit, this guy used to haunt my dreams as well. Late last summer I was pretty hardcore about reselling, buying up several large lots daily. Back then you could still see the name of who you lost to, and gadget516 was public enemy #1, though I lost quite a few to Pedro! as well.

Whoever it is, gadget is strictly his buying name and he sells under another nick.
  • Yeah, pedro got me some but it was like gadget was literally over my shoulder looking everytime I bid. He actually won an auction from me one time. I want to say he is from Florida but he must have a booming game store for retro stuff because he buys up so much nes, snes, and gameboy stuff. He is kind of rude too because we had an issue with his payment. I got to turn him in for non-paying bidder only to find out I had entered the wrong paypal when I listed the item. lol.
  • If I remember correctly, gadget took the chance to buy the 'fake auction' (As far as I know) for a Stadium Events CIB at $10000. I know there was a thread about this, but I can't find it.

And yes, this guys is a high bidder reseller. He must screw some people somewhere cause he buy lots for high prices, and buy so much of them!
  • I have been wondering about them as well. I've been outbid several times in the past. At least they were paying for it after I was done. image
  • that sucks, ebay wont let you contact him unless you bought or sold something from him. Can someone ask where his shop is located? I would like to go see it. I live in Florida.

Joe do you have his address? i can see if its near me, maybe even snail mail him.

Same here, if he's in Florida I want to go check out his place.
  • This is lukiegames, his return address is in west park, fl. I have the street address if somebody wants it but as far as I know, they only do ebay.  The google street view looks like a warehouse.  When you snipe everything, if you're snipe is too low, it just doesn't get placed so I'm sure that's why he wins a high percentage of the time
  • that would explain a lot image

That makes an awful lot of sense.

I'm surprised they buy things so high and then turn around and flip them in large lots like they do.  They have so many random manual/game lots that I would think they'd have trouble making money back, let alone for a profit.

  • ah....so they buy with gadget516 and resell with lukiegames? It does make sense because lukiegames sells tons of crap.
  • Thank you Sosa.
  • I just wish Ebay would institue a way to block bid sniping software. I think its bullshit when a reseller has a robot outbid you at the last second =(

if this asshat is winning so much, chances are he is cheating and using software to make his bids.
  • Using a snipe device isn't cheating. A lot of collectors are also big snipers.

Bottom line is, you won't get outbid at the last second if you bid the highest.  I can't stand bidding early and then checking later and seeing some 20-30 bids from a low feedback person who is either shilling or just pissed off and takes losing personal to the point where they bid much higher than they intended.  Bid as high as you're willing to go and if you get outbid, so be it as that's as high as you were willing to go.
  • Yeah sniping is a way of life. With all of the free snipers out there I'm surprised that everyone isn't using them by now.
  • I dont even understand the concept of sniping. Its just a waste of time. Whoever bids the highest wins.Im guessing 95% of the time if you win by snipe, you were gonna win it for the same price as you would have just putting your max bid down. Its not worth it to save $4.75 on 5 out of 100 auctions.

Most the time it comes down to two snipers in the last 30 seconds. Guess what.. the person who was willing to pay the most won, so it didnt matter in the first place. image
  • I think sniping allows you to win items cheaper. If you bid a high amount, then someone is likely to bid small increments just to do it. I only snipe if I am not going to be around the computer. Otherwise, I do it myself.
  • More times than not, it doesn't matter. It basically only matters when you get people who don't know what they want to bid and are influenced by the current bids. If everyone bid once on every auction and it was their max, it'd make no difference but many auctions will have ignorant people that make tons of bids with no real idea of value and placing a high bid early somewhat taunts these people into bidding well over market value sometimes if they really want it. This group of people tends to not be serious bidders though so are usually only involved in the pretty much irrelevant early low bidding process.
  • Bloody snipers, I was the only person to bid for an NTSC SNES in this country and right at the last few seconds I ended up paying £35 instead of £30. I think the seller made an alt because he could see that I kept bidding higher on the item just in case.

    I'm glad to have this:
