If It can be done one day, what do you guys think the price will be on the reproduction sites? If they are charging $45 for FF3, Lord knows what they will charge for FF7.
Hmm. I'll call bullshit on that one. A more thorough explanation might make more sense, but the "there was never an NES FF3 made, so it takes 2 circuit boards" sounds like a load of crap.
It looks to me like it's just a recognized in-demand item and they're pricing accordingly.
its not because it is in-demand. there is only 1 board in the entire US library that can be used to make this game: Super Mario Bros 2. but not all will work either, it has to have all the gold pins (no space in the middle like all other TSROM boards) and they can be a bitch to find. also a brand new battery must be hooked up, which cost like 5 bucks, and a ram chip must be taken from another board, thus making that one useless. so it is a pain to make and a little more expensive than a normal game.

Wouldn't you do that for every game that needs a battery, or would you just leave in the old 15-20 year old battery? A new holder for easy swapping is ~$1.50 and a battery is ~$1.25.

You are seriously destroying a whole game for a chip you can buy for $2.50? Even if you don't care about the extra destruction of original hardware I would think the labor alone would be enough to use new parts.
^^^ Thought so. So the only issue is specific donor cart and $5 worth of parts.
So that adds $20 to the usual price, how, exactly?
Are most usual donor carts $10-$15 games like Mario 2? I have no idea, I'm asking a legit question here. It's also a variant of SMB2 which could be even harder to track down.

It was my understanding that quite a few of the better games required donors in that range.
But still, at most we're talking about a $10 differential (MAYBE an extra $5 for the cart and $5 in parts). If they solder quickly it's nowhere near an extra $10 worth of work on top of that.

i have about 30 - 40 broken TS and TKROM boards that i fucked up when i was learning to desolder roms a few years ago, so yes i am using those chips since the boards are messed up. i can probably fix them, but i hate fixing traces with rewiring.
i do not replace the batterys, neither nesreproductions or gamereproductions does this. i have only had one battery not work for me, they are still working like a charm. if a battery does die in a game i make, i will replace.
i did see that you can buy the ram chips, once i am out of broken boards, ill be buying them.
If you don't mind a grind, Dragoon X Omega 2 is a great hack of Final Fantasy 1. VERY high quality and much better than the original Dragoon X Omega (a hack of DW1).
ooh that sounds great. MY favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy 1 fmor the NES. I will have to check to see who make them and how much they charge.
I guess I will have to try the rom of that too. I can only seem to come across the roms of the "real" games and none of the hacks, homebrews fan translations. Guess i am not looking in the right spot.

I hope more people could translate Jap RPG games and make them into repros.
Off topic, my next goal in life is to master in Japanese
Jap is derogatory. If you MUST, you can use Nip.

DXO is very similar to DW1, but DXO2 bears very little similarity to FF1. Consider it a total conversion, in every sense of the term.
They keep ALL of the hacks that are out there.
