Best Sitcoms of All Time

Just having in the chat room talking about sitcoms so I thought I punch up the best sitcoms I love. Maybe the US users won't of heard of them with them being UK productions, and can d/l them and they may brighten up what could otherwise be a dull afternoon and when sod all else is on the tele. Here it goes:

- The Thin Blue Line,
- The Brittas Empire,
- Red Dwarf,
- Only Fools & Horses,
- Rising Damp,
- One Foot in the Grave,
- The Fall & Rise of Reginald Perrin,
- Blackadder,
- Fawlty Towers,
- Porridge,
- Going Straight,
- Open All Hours,
- Not the 9 o'clock News,
- Men Behaving Badly,
- Dinnerladies.

Theres some real gems in there.

Hopefully you guys can point me in the direction of a few

  • Just as it would be wrong to list the greatest games of all time without taking into account earlier systems, so to would it be in TV land image Honeymooners (1956) is easily one of the top 3 sitcoms of all time, and I agree with Nick that Seinfeld's gotta be up there too. I've always been a sucker for the old non-politically correct stuff, and All in the Family is at the top of that list.
  • M*A*S*H*

    Seinfeld

    Sanford & Son

    Cheers

are some of my favs. I am addicted to MASH, I can't get enough.

  • Ok, here are some of my all-time favorites:

    Old school:

    Soap

    Sanford & Son

    Newer:

    King of Queens

    Family Guy (if that counts)
  • CTRL-F "Simpsons" ... not found?

    Really?
  • SEINFELD

    MASH

    King of Queens

    Family GUY

    SouthPark

Are You Being Served (Old BBC)

    Monty Python

    Fawlty Towers
  • Yeah Simpsons is good. I'm gona be shot down for this but I quite like Friends.

For the guy who said he likes non-politically correct stuff: you'd love Rising Damp & Til Death Us Do Part. Made in the 60's and 70's, these comedies are very crude.
  • Red Dwarf is my favorite listed so far, it broke the mold and is missed sorely. The only other sitcom that came anywhere near it in subject that I know of was the ill-fated Homeboys from Outer Space (starring some Wayans I think image ). I own the entire DVD set.

Other sleeper favorites that I can't put down - you'll note they're all pretty original. I grew up so sick of the formula after watching years of Full House, Step by Step, My 2 Dads, and the countless other family comedies, that I can only watch really twisted stuff anymore.

The Tick (live-action series starring Patrick Warburton, Seinfeld's "Puddy" and Family Guy's "Joe")

Greg the Bunny (Sarah Silverman, Seth Green, Eugene Levy, and lots of puppets.)

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (only barely qualifies because of the wraparound segments, of which there are about 22 minutes worth each 2 HOUR SHOW hehe)

Herman's Head (starring a whole lotta nobody, plus Hank Azaria and the woman who does Maggie Simpson's voice)

Cosby Show (yes, I realize this is a formula sitcom. But Bill himself elevates it, and his chemistry with his on-screen wife and kids makes the show believable. Many of Bill's lines are improv, to elicit a genuine reaction from the others (and the studio audience). )

You mean Lisa's voice? Yeardley Smith.
  • The only sitcom I go out of my way to watch is Simpsons.

These are the ones I stop and watch when I am flipping through the channels.

    Seinfeld
Trailer Park Boys (is this a sitcom?)
    South Park
    Family Guy

My wife is big into Friends. So, I've got to see a lot of them. Last weekend, for fun, I decided to do the "Phoebe run" through the park. Most fun I've had making an ass of myself in public in a while!
  • I used to love all the old TGIF shows that used to be on back in the day as well. Step by Step, Family Maters, Full House, etc. I use to have the biggest crush on DJ from Full House for some reason. Keep in mind I was like 12.

Yeah my GF has every single episode on video, plus the two seasons of Joey, the spin off. Nearly 300 episodes in all, and not a bad one made I'd say.
  • Trailer park boys is my favorite show of all time, the producers hit the nail on the head with the subject matter and the cast.If you have never seen it I would highly reccomend it.And its made in canada i think to boot.
  • Seinfeld and King of The Hill are my favs

I liked those shows when I was younger, but I have a hard time watching them now. Same with Who's the Boss? I had the biggest crush on Alyssa Milano back in the day.

As for my favorites of all time...

    Three's Company

    Simpsons

    Scrubs

    The Office
  • Heres another sort of one: The Wonder Years. I'm suprised none of the american contingent said that one.
Gotta love Fred Savage, The Wonder Years & The Wizard, that would raise anybody to mythical status.
  • And here I thought I was the only person who liked Family Guy image So many people give it shit, it's nice to see others with a sense of humor!
  • Futurama
    Ren & Stimpy
    Fullhouse
    LOST
    The Simpsons
    Roseanne
    Who's the Boss?
    Cheers
    America's Funniest Home Videos

    (in no particular order)
  • Who's the Boss, I forgot that one, AWESOME!

  • Anybody interested in buying the entire 400 episode Simpsons series (and entire futurama) on VHS. Every tape has a 100% original tape cover with episodes listed on back. I created this myself and its up to date. If you snag it up quick you can continue taping when next season starts. Looking for "best offers". I have pics.
  • Welcome Back Kotter, a little before my time, but I caught a bunch of reruns a few years back, still funny to me.

    And Mr. Belvedere

I guess my all time was Saved by the Bell.  Don't tell me you didn't watch that back in the day.

Man I've got the entire Saved by the Bell collection still to watch, remember watching them in the early 90's every saturday morning.
Screech is a legend, did he ever graduate?
I'm still after Good Morning Miss Bliss (I think thats what its called), it was the sort of prequel to SBTB.
  • For a hidden gem of a sitcom, check out the UK comedy Spaced. Hilarious, many gaming and star wars references - main character is Simon Pegg - Shawn from Shawn of the Dead, also starring in the recent Hot Fuzz. Also Black Books is another great recent british sitcom.
  • TN -

    MR BELVEDERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quite possibly the greatest show of all time, certainly had the greatest opening song. Dude, go to amazon.com and vote for it to be released on dvd. We need all the help we can get. Mr. Belvedere thanks you!
  • Not sure about the actual shows, but the two funniest TV charaters in American TV history are: #2 Homer Simpson...

and #1 (and no one comes even close) GEORGE COSTANZA!

I wish I had a buck for everytime George on Seinfeld made me laugh, I could afford to buy SE image
  • Seinfeld & Friends
  • Im a huge fan of The Cosby Show, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and South Park.
