  • There's a guy over on DP who does the AV mod to Top Loaders in case anyone was interested. Sorry I forget his name but he bumps his console mod thread in the WTB forum every couple of weeks.

Both the original famicom as the famicom av have no lockout chip. (aka they're both region free.) However the pin connector is different so you have to get an adaptor to make american games fit.
  • If he's going through the trouble of an AV mod, is it more straightforward for him to do an RGB mod instead?

I heard that you can't do a RGB mod on a toploader.
  • Yea if bunnyboy got this system is there any chance of a mod kit/top load conversion gonna be available to buy??? Ive been lurking in this thread hoping and hoping he will make something.

I got an AV top loader modded by the guy on DP, and there is STILL jail bars! And they are just as noticeable as they have always been. The graphics look a little clear and brighter but it does not fix the jail bars even a little bit.

    This is the only hope!

Bunny boy please drop by and give us a full update, and "if" there is a possibility you can fix this problem?

I'm pretty sure the system has to be generating an RGB signal somewhere that gets converted to composite, and then piped through the RF generator.

The NES PPU only outputs composite video, so you can't get RGB without actually replacing the PPU with one from a Playchoice board.
  • I just did an AV mod to my toploader and it looks amazing. i did a side by side with my toaster and i can't even tell the difference. I modded mine with a new video circuit and dual mono audio.

some modders just add AV ports, which doesnt help at all.  The proper mod for this is with the enhanced video circuit, and yes, it looks very nice.

There is the long post. A guy uploaded a tiny little program thing on one of the last pages. I used that for the mod.
