Big thanks to the power company
Well Monday we had a power surge which fried my computer. My neighbors said they called the power company and they said they would fix or replace their computer. Im going to call in the morning and see about mine. anyone have something like this happen

Hopefully it's just your power supply that got cooked. I've never seen a hard drive fried by power surge.. just power supplies, mother boards, and anything plugged into said motherboard (RAM and expansion cards).
Surge protectors are like 12 bucks!
Not the kind that will protect you from a close lightning strike, or a real honest-to-goodness electric company power surge. I think most people use the cheapie $12-buck power strips to plug their computer components into, and think they're true surge protectors since they've got the little red button on them. Truth is, they don't protect from shit. Even if you pay $100 for a _real_ surge protector (they wrigh about 25-35 lbs) it's not guaranteed to protect your junk from a real nasty lightning bolt, but it will protect from electric company crap. Fortunately, the kind of lightning bolt it won't protect against will probably put a hole in your roof, so you have bigger concerns
