My NES Collection - What am I missing

Even though I consider myself an NES "collector" because I have so many games, I do not collect games for the sake of collecting rare deals or making money on resales. I collect them if they're fun to play or if I considered them fun when I was a kid or if I always wanted to play them as a kid.

Well I've gone as far as my own knowledge can go at this point. There are a few games that I still want but I'm coming to the end. I'm hoping that people can look at what I have and recommend some games to me to proceed with my collection:

(Forgive the hyperlinks, I can't figure out how to copy and paste these from my gamefaqs list where they are hyperlinks and convert them to plain text.)

  • Huh, that formatting wasn't there before, I wonder why it did it.

Edit: List has been corrected for content. I still can't figure out why the formatting is still messed up.
  • Castlevania 2 is such a shitty game. How is that on the list?!

You are missing Bubble Bobble, Bubble Bobble 2, Snow Brothers, Little Samson, flintstones, battletoads / double dragon, and many others...

Also, Final Fantasy II and III are repros. They should be in the repro list.

Well Castlevania is a series that I always wanted to own and never did. I had actually never played any of them until I bought them last year.

However, Battletoads and all three Double Dragon games are on my list of games that I already own as is Battletoads & Double Dragon. I will look into the other games that you mentioned. I have heard of Bubble Bobble but not Snow Brothers, Little Samson, or Flinstones.

Good call on the Final Fantasies. I tried to delete all the repros from my Gamefaqs list but I must have missed those. I did put them in the repro list as well but I forgot to take them off the normal NES list.

Feel free to tell me about the "many others" that I'm missing as well.

Hmmmm....I did play that one when I was very young but I remember it being a repetitive game that just does the same levels over and over like the old Atari games. Even though I'm all for video game nostalgia, Atari games can never hold my interest for more than 10 minutes for that reason. To me, Nintendo's big innovation was having games that could actually be beaten. With that being said, I probably haven't played that game for 23 years or so, so maybe I'm misremembering.

I'll look into it. I think that's one that can be found for pretty cheap.
  • Micro Machines, Cowboy Kid, Thunder and Lightning, World Cup Soccer, Rampart and Balloon Fight come to mind for me.
  • one of my favorites that I didn't see on your list was Bubble Bobble althouth I never got very far on it because I always played it as a two player with Limbofunk and he was always soooooooo much better than me I would end up dying and he would get many levels ahead of me...but it was fun as far as I got to go with it.
  • Can't believe no one mentioned Contra...

Edit: I second Rampart too, that game is just good fast paced action.
  • dusty diamond allstar softball... best baseball game for the system!!!
  • What About DR J and Mr H

  • i like solar jetman
  • Just get 'em all and then you'll never have to worry about missing out on a "fun one" for the rest of your life... image

Hell yeah! Get that game as soon as possible.

Here's what comes to my mind. Some are debatable but just thought that I would throw them anyway :

    - Air Fortress (Very Challenging!)
    - Blaster Master (A big name of the time)
    - Cobra Triangle
    - Family Feud
    - Fire'n'Ice
    - Gemfire
    - Golf (Yes, Golf rocks!)
    - Gradius
    - Ikari Warriors 2 : Victory Road
    - Mighty Bomb Jack
    - Puzznic
    - R.C Pro-Am
    - R.C Pro-Am II
    - River City Ransom
    - Seicross
    - Shadowgate
    - Short Order / Eggsplode
    - Slalom (Pretty hard though)
    - Solomon's Key
    - Super Dodgeball
    - Super Sprint
    - Tennis (Why not?)
    - Track & Field
    - Uncharted Waters
    - Uninvited

There's more... need to think about it.
  • golf is my favorite sport game other than dusty diamond... yes, it beats tecmo bown and super bowl in my book! and yes, i am retarded!
  • Kickle Cubicle, both G.I. Joe games, Whomp' Em, Little Samson, Rockin' Kats, Wacky Races, Little Nemo. Dragon Fighter, Kickmaster and Swordmaster are also very underated titles IMO.
  • Well I went to the only local store that carries NES games. They had very few of the titles suggested here but I purchased the ones that they did have. I wrote down the others so that you guys could let me know if you recomended any of them. Let me know:

    10-Yard Fight
    720
    8 Eyes
    Adventures of Dino Rikki
    Airwolf
    Alpha Mission
    Anticipation
    Bandai Golf
    Baseball
    Cabal
    California Games
    Captain Skyhawk
    Cyberball
    Cybernoid
    Dance Aerobics
Dash Galaxy in the Alien Asylum
    Deadly Towers
    Destination Earthstar
    Double Dribble
    Godzilla
    Golgo 13
    Greg Norman's Golf Power
    High Speed
    Hoops
    Infiltrator
    Iron Tank
    Jack Nicklaus' Major Championship Golf
    Jeopardy 25th Anniversary Edition
    John Elway's Quarterback
    Journey to Silius
    Kings of the Beach
    Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf
    Mach Rider
    Mad Max
    Magic Johnson's Fast Break
The Mafat Conspiracy: Golgo 13 II
    Millipede
    Mission: Impossible
    NES Open Tournament Golf
    NES Play Action Football
    Othello
    Phantom Fighter
    Pictionary
    Pinbot
    Robo Warrior
    Rocket Ranger
    Roger Clemens' MVP Baseball
    Roller Games
    Rush 'n Attack
    Shreddin'
    Silent Service
    Skate or Die
    Simpsons: Batman Meets Radioactive Man
    Sky Shark
    Solstice
    Spy Hunter
    Star Soldier
    Stealth
    Super Glove Ball
    Superspike Volleyball
    Super Team Games
    T&C Surf Designs
    Target Renegade
    Time Lord
    Tiny Toon Adventures
    Touchdown Fever
    Twin Eagle
    Ultimate Basketball
    Wall Street Kid
    Wheel of Fortune Junior
    Win, Lose, or Draw
    World Class Track Meet
    Wrath of the Black Manta
    Xevious
  • Of the games on your list here, I would recommend Cabal and Tiny Toon Adventures.  They are both fun games, especially Tiny Toons.  Some other games I recommend you get are Bomberman, Bomberman 2, Contra, Super C, Trog, Bucky O'Hare, and Gun Nac.  Gun Nac is kind of hard to find, but it's an awesome shoot 'em up and definitely worth getting.
  • Get Deadly Towers.
  • Journey to Silius gets my vote, fun and definitely hard game.. very contra/mega man'ish
  • If you like basketball, Double Dribble is a must. And since you have the Wizardry games on your list, you might want to track down The Bard's Tale although it pales a bit in comparison to the non-NES versions.
  • River City Ransom!!!!!

sorry, booberiffic, but SNK Baseball is THE best baseball game for the NES.

    bball: arch rivals

    hockey: blades of steel

RPG: ghost lion (or repo: earthbound)

    zelda-esk: spiritual warfare

    point-click: shadowgate
