Cool Nintendo find
So I recently bought out a collector who had decided to move on from video games. His collection was huge but a majority was PS1 games. I did get some nice SNES and NES stuff as well but not a huge amount.
Anyway, this guy kept everything and it was all in great shape. So, I'm going through the tons of magazines and guides he has and there are some papers in the middle with his name on it. There are several of them and all on Nintendo letterhead (dated mid 1990's). After reading them it appears he would send in requests for gameplay answers to various games and they would write back with answers. Pretty interesting stuff I thought. There was also one on Squaresoft letterhead that he had written requesting to purchase manuals.
I will try and get some pictures up at some point as I assume they arent a whole lot of these floating around anymore. Not sure if Im gonna keep em or let em go but anyway I knew some of you would like to hear about them/see them.
I remember calling the number a couple times as a kid but didnt know people wrote in...man waiting for weeks would have killed me.

Still, interesting.
I can't see any other reason to write in besides not owning a telephone... "Hmm, I COULD Find out my answer NOW, but I'll wait a couple weeks."
Still, interesting.
Probably also cheaper than dialing a "900" number...
EDIT_
Ill email him and ask him.Hes a cool guy and will let me know.
woulda been a good investment to buy a stack of chrono trigger manuals then
cool

According to the letter, yes it was.
Manuals were $3 and the maps were $1. That was for any game except for FF2, Mana and a couple gameboy games (apparently they were out of stock).
For some reason my scanner didnt scan in color but these do have a bit of color to them. The A in squaresoft is red and the nintendo word is gray. These are on nice letterhead type paper. 2 are single page responses and the others have a few pages.
Pretty cool stuff.
EDIT--I think I am going to sell these as there has been a lot of interest. Just havent decided on the best way to do it yet.
I've got one of my own that I saved through the years. I even gave myself an "agent" number since I submitted tips for the Classified Information section. It's framed in my game room
That's really cool man; I remember I discovered a few codes for games, and always immediately checked through every issue's classified information section to make sure someone didn't already find it. I remember I had several that weren't listed. I always wanted to submit them to Classified Information, but I never got around to it... I should have!
One code I can remember off the top of my head was a Skip a Level on Super Star Wars- I got the game the day it came out and figured out the code within the week.
What agent number are you? What codes did you submit?
I actually did send in for a manual of several Square and Enix games a long time ago. The manuals that I received in the mail were black and white photo copied books. Not the actual original manual. I will try and post a picture of some of them sometime. I know I have the Dragon Warrior II manual they sent me for sure.
