Suggestion re chat

but I do think that having the chat "on" all the time might discourage posting.



I know of another site where they have the chat at a scheduled time every week.



I think the chat function is all shiny and new right now, but sooner or later there's not going to be as much to talk about. I think a week between chats would mean that there would be the past week's ebay auctions etc. to chat about.



I'd just hate to see the posting go down because everyone's in the chat room all the time.

    Chat is nice so the board isn't cluttered with simple and common questions.  For more technical ones, I think the forum is appropriate as the answers stay posted.  Or if someone has a new want/sell list or changes it it'll stay posted.  Besides, I use both and I don't think I've slowed down.

    I think it has slowed down posting some, but I'm open for other opinions regarding it. It's been exciting to finally "talk" to some of the folks here, but I will be the first to agree that it does slow the boards.

    I like the chat room. It's mostly just you guys talking about sluts though.

    My suggestion to you Dain would be to monitor it. For now everyone's enjoying it so by all means. But maybe when the shine wears off you can consider the issue.

    I enjoy the chat alot right now as well. Been super fun getting to talk to some of you guys for the first time there. I already talk with many of you AIM anyways though so the new will wear off pretty fast for me I think. I would guess in about a months time it will slow down some. If not I say we address it then.

    I think I may actually alter the way chat works by using channels. When the new site is live, everyone has their own portal, etc, so I may allow people to host their own chat rooms, schedule chat sessions, etc... I do think it will wear out in the forums area, but that's not to say we can't put chat in it's own area. Forums will be forums, and I often think people make small talk here when they would rather just talk to someone.

    I love the chat, it makes everything a little more personable. It definalty makes buying/selling/trading easier than sending pms back and forth for 4 days.



    I don't think it diminishes the forums at all. There might be a few less posts because of it but the posts that aren't being posted are mindless chatter anyways.

    Be careful what you ask for....I said the same thing to Dain the other night and it was rename something to the effect of NGD is Dain's Bitch. I thought NGDLand had a much nicer ring to it though. LOL!

    You guys can create rooms just by joining them, as in /join My Cool Room. It creates a new room and will list it on the entry screen as an option to enter.

    Not right now there isn't, but when I say channel, I mean more on the lines of 'buddy chat' where you invite people in your buddy list type thing to chat. I dunno... I'm not thrilled on that idea either, so I think chat will likely take a far back seat to development time.
