SNES Console Cart Tab?

I was wondering if all SNES consoles had the little plastic tab for holding the carts in place. It holds the carts in place when you turn on your console. So far I have only seen a few that have these.

  • I belive the main purpose of those tabs was so that you can't stick a Super Famicom game in there. Other then that, the system is completely capible of play Super Fami games, so maybe you have a few that people have clipped the tabs for that reason.
  • Im not talking about those tabs, im talking about the big one in the middle that holds the cart in place when you push up on the power button.
  • Ahhhhhhhhh, gotcha... I think all of mine have that piece, but I will check when I get home.
  • I have cleaned a few SNESs and not all of them have that. I dont know when it was changed or why but I have seen about 50/50 with/without.
  • It's likely to hold the cart fast so kids don't rip their copy of A Link to the Past out while the power is still on, and erase their save games.
  • I know for fact that my first SNES I ever got (got it new, never tampered with it) didn't have these tabs. I bought a few Super Famicom games and they worked/played great!
  • Does it have something to do with the redesign of the carts where the middle part is shaved out as opposed to solid?
  • Oh I never thought of that! I must have bought some later version SNES consoles.
