Preferred Official Controller Poll

Just wondered which controller people use the most.
I know it'll probably be the old faithful square original, but its just I've been playing the NWC repro quite a lot recently and my hands are raw because of its sharpish edges and concave buttons. So I had ago with a Dogbone controller and it just felt so much better, the buttons don't hurt one bit to press for prolonged periods etc like on rad racer.
The only downfall I've found is that on all 3 of my dogbone controllers the down button seems to not work as effectively on tetris as the original.
Maybe I should do a very short pit stop at the end of rad racer to switch over controllers, maybe it can be done with a four score/satellite?

  • I am an original man myself. However I do have a set of Power Grips on the side to make it more comfortable, I can't play without them hardly anymore.

  • It must be old age for us NGD, hit your 20's and your hands go to mush and can't deal with 5-10 hour NES sessions like they used to in the good old days.
  • I dunno, lol. I have been playing Metroid Prime 3 for about 12 hours a day the last 2 days and I am about to start back up on it again now image image image Doesn't hurt that it is my fav. game series of all time.

  • Original square controller for sure: my hands grew up with that thing and now nothing else on earth feels more comfortable.
  • my favorite controller is the nes MAX controller i modded as a kid. i didnt like the Dpad design, so i too two of the red plastic sticks you get in the cheese and crackers packags to glue on the controller to make a regular Dpad. It rocked!!! (with cheezy flavored goodness)!!!

Same here but I had something like a 5 year break from the NES to the more ergonomic controller of the N64 and now my hands are letting me know they prefer analogue sticks and shoulder buttons.

I bet nobody chooses the Max. I used one of mine once on SMB, never did a koopa taunt me so much. Back in its box it went for all eternity.
  • actually i just did choose the max. in my defense it was highly modified haha

Your a braver man than I am, lol. Each to their own.
  • I voted for the dogbone. My real favorite is the smaller square one with the turbo A and B buttons.
  • Dogbone all the way...no more cramps image
  • Wow, I have always been a MAX fan, fits in your hand so nice just like a PS2 controller way ahead of it's time. I do like the dogbone controllers though too.
  • had to go with the dogbone
  • ORIGINAL all the way....

only thing that sucks is when playing for hours, u get nintendo finger. lol

thats when your 2 ring fingers get those sore lines on them from holding the back of the controller. happens to me all the time.
  • I like the old school ones although my thumb doesnt leave much room to use the second button
  • NES Dis-Advantage.
  • I am shocked so many people like the dogbone, I can't stand playing with it.

  • Same here really, I thought it would be a complete land slide victory for the original but the dogbone has kept it honest.

This might mean we have quite a few SNES fans amongst the ranks.
  • Wow, I'm the only person so far that voted for the Advantage? I don't know why, but the joystick part reminds me of my days as a kid in the arcade, blowing all my allowance money on Robotron 2084.
  • I had to vote for the original controller.. just the feel of it brings back lots of childhood memories... plus it's great.. simple but effective...
  • Dogbone here,I think it grows on you the more that you use it.I did not like it at first either but now it is by far my favorite controller
  • The original square controller is the old standby of course.  It's great for any game type in any situation really.
There is a controller from QuickShot though that comes in second for me.  I've heard it referred to as the QS "Chimera" before, but I am not sure if that's a nickname or what.  A little black controller with a GCN-esque thumbstick on the right and trigger B button and thumb A button with turbo.  I've only ever seen it twice before in the wild and bought it both times.
Very highly recommended from me for games like Tiger Heli or Gun Smoke.  OVerhead shooters beware!
  • I voted for the original... And I haven't quite figured what some of you are talking about when you're saying you can't play with it for quite so long anymore... I'm about to be 22, and I have no problem sitting and playing for hours on end using that controller(whenever I have the time, lol). The dogbone is second for me...it was the controller I actually used the most, having used it from 1993 to today in probably 65-75% of the time I've been playing NES, but it doesn't quite capture the simplicity and classic feel of the original.
