Resources for collecting other consoles

(Not sure if this goes here, feel free to move if necessary)

Some could say that I have fairly "grand asperations" for my collection, considering the amount of games that I have now. With spending money at a minimum (trying to save for a mortgage down payment before the end of the year), I plan on aiding the development of my collection with things have or can easily get: Time and Knowledge.  I want to try and build up a catalog of sorts of games lists for various consoles, and as we all know with the NES, trying to build up a "complete" list is quite the daunting task, and some sites claiming to have complete lists may be missing several odds and ends. Fortunately for Nintendo systems, nintendoage and the NGD list are great sources of information. I was wondering if any of you guys collect for other systems, and/or if you can recommend some other resources to gather information for them? I recognize places like digital press and wikipedia (for what it's worth) are good places to start but where can I go for the details?

  • Smspower.org

    Gametz.com
  • smspower? Those guys don't really collect. If you're interested in the Master System, there is really only one place (unless you're looking for insert scans, power has a ton of those in good quality):

    www.sega8bit.com

Best place for Master System info, I know because I helped put a bunch of that site together. The rarity list is currently being worked on again to finally include Brazil, and we may be updating it to include Korean and Taiwanese/Chinese games soon as well. For any Atari system, there is really only one site:

    www.atariage.com

Awesome site, and one of the design ideas behind NA in fact.
  • What about Sega CD and 32X?

I  have found the site www.sega-16.com is good for the 32x and sega CD
  • I've been looking for a Game Gear site for a long time. Anyone got any. Some of the Sega sites have a few threads but nothing really beyond that.
  • A decent Game Gear site would be nice...
  • Thanks for the bumps/info.
This afternoon I stumbled upon www.game-rave.com, which looks to be great for PS1 collecting.

At the moment I'm trying to put together a Game Cube 'complete' US Release list, which is proving to be difficult, as digital press, wikipedia, and nintendo all have different numbers of games listed.

For the Game Gear requests, I don't have any websites, but I did come across this game list (attached) a while back. (Disclaimer: I did not make this list and am in no way taking credit for it, credit should go to one Andrew Krieg, who's website as listed in the document is no longer accessable). The list is in a .lib format, which is viewable in proper formatting using wordpad

  • There is also www.sega16bit.com but it's still currently in the process of being put together. Over time it should become a cool site for Genesis/Mega Drive, 32X and such, but it still has a way to go.
  • I think that the reason that there is so few Game Gear forums and such is because 80% of the Game Gear systems that are around these days don't work correctly anymore. The problem is simply blown caps 99% of the time, but most people don't have the know-how or the will to repair their old Game Gear. They see that the screen doesn't work, so they assume it's broken.

That being said, if you're looking for a place to buy a good Game Gear, the www.benheck.com forums are an excellent place to look. Even brand new Game Gears had shitty screens, but the people on that site figured out how to do an LED mod to the screen which makes it an infinitely better screen, and people seem to sell them pretty often there. It's definitely worth checking out if you are at all into Game Gear.

... Yeah, I work there. image But we catalog games for several systems, including PCs.
  • I spent quite a bit of time looking for a good dedicated Genesis site, but to little avail. The sites already mentioned seemed to be the most adequate sources available, but there isn't anything on the level of NintendoAge or AtariAge.

Are you the same Kisune Sniper who used to contribute over at www.vgmuseum.com? I just happened to notice your name on a couple reviews while I was poking around (course if that's not you, it's a really random coincidence on the name).

It's a pretty cool site, too bad they don't update it anymore.

  • AtariMania, http://www.atarimania.com/start.php, has tons of info on all the atari systems, and really shines when you're looking for info on imports and label variants.
  • For Arcade stuff:

http://www.neo-geo.com/ My favorite forum outside of NA. Great for Neo and arcade stuff alike.

    http://www.arcadeotaku.com Excellent arcade resource forum

http://shmups.system11.org The best shooter dedicated site I know of
  • hey guys I'm still looking for a decent sega CD collector sight? I don't know but it seems to me that I'm the only one collecting, lol. Funny thought when you really think about it. Cd based games are a bit more difficult to keep in good condition then cartrage based games. You'd think that they'd be rarer

  • ^Yeah, but resurfacing machines make discs look all nice and shiny again, and some of the newer ones are so good at it, you can't tell the it's been resurfaced. From what I can see, they merely "buff" the scratches out now, as opposed to the old method of actually grinding away at the disc.
  • yeah but deep scratches label surface scratches and cracks... Some on these games are going on 12-13 years old!
