ebay non seller

Anyone ever bought games on ebay, paid for the items, and then have the money refunded a few days later with the seller refusing to complete the sale?

  • Yep. In fact, it just happened recently. I won a lot with some very rare documents (SunSoft newsletters, Acclaim newsletters and many others), paid, waited 3 weeks, and contacted the seller. No response. So I issued a PayPal claim, and the seller immediately refunded my money. I tried contacting the seller again, and he seemed frustrated with ebay and paypal, so he just decided not to send anyone anything. Really pisses me off too, since the items were going to be scanned for the site. Chalk it up to another piece of NES history down the shitter image

But in all fairness, I did the same thing one time myself. I listed a game as a way to attract attention to some of my other auctions (as a LOT of people do), with no intentions of selling it. In fact, the price was outrageously high, IMO. Someone used the BIN, and I couldn't believe it. He even paid immediately. I felt like crap (and took a negative -- my only 1 in over a year), refunded his money, explained to him the situation, and decided I wouldn't do that again image

  • I might have something similar soon at least I hope. I bought a lot and now I see the guy isn't active on ebay anymore :S i bought the lot about two weeks ago so with any luck he shipped it out before he quit ebay otherwise I'll have to file for theft on paypal and hope to get my money back. at this point i'm not to happy expecally since I was looking forward to those games.
  • Just out of curiosity, Dain, what was the rare game and how much was the BIN?
  • It was a Trolls in Crazyland for $200, at a time when they were selling for $75. I guess that's not that outrageous, but at the time it seemed like it.

Bummer, I'm sad to hear that seller flaked out on you. I'm sure we were all looking forward to seeing those (I know I was)!

I have that game complete.  I paid near a hundred or so for it.
  • Damn Dain,

I was wondering what the hell happened to all that stuff. I had to smash my keyboard not to bid against you on all that stuff as I wanted it bad too. Guess this just confirms to me that I did the right thing.

Really sucks though for the NES community and the site here as a whole as alot of that stuff I have never even seen before.

  • Well, the good news is that I've since won a very large number of those documents Erik -- I'll be scanning them all after the update. There are some *really* scarce ones, many of which I hadn't seen before.

I think you can still get his contact info, so don't hesitate to give him a call if you don't see the items soon! Phone calls can be very effective.

  • The problem with ebay is it should be set up where only the winning bidder can contact the seller after the auction ends. having the winning bid doesnt mean squat anymore.
  • yes, i won a auction, seller emailed me and said here's your money back, someone offered me a hell of alot more money...

i've since recived all the games i won, however i did take close to a month to get it .
  • Had that happen recently too. Although they told me it was smashed in the mail and returned to them. It had only been a few days... I call BS on that but its ok, I had decided I really didnt want the item after I won it anyway so I was glad to get the refund. image
