Anyone ever heard of a NFR cart coming with box and manual?

What the topic says, pretty much...  Recently, I was able to get my hands on a nice Mario Party 3 (N64) NFR cart.  Strangely, though, it came to me with a box and manual, which, as far as I've seen, shouldn't be the case, especially since the box and manual that came with this cart were merely the standard retail box and manual...  What I'm wondering is this...is it possible that a NFR cart could've come with a retail box and manual?  I'm thinking that someone merely put the box and manual with the cart after the fact, but the question lingers...

Edit:  And btw, it's up for grabs; if anyone wants it, make me an offer I can't refuse and it's yours image .

  • My guess would be that a used game store had the box on display and when someone bought the game they just pulled a random copy of the game from the drawer like Gamestop does now. They just happened to pull the NFR cart to put with the box.
  • I wouldn't be surprised if one existed, because Mario Tennis for Virtual Boy didn't have a box since it was a system pack-in but Blockbuster video had a box that they put on shelves for rental. Which I supposed qualifies as NFR even though the game isn't marked. My Mario Tennis box is in storage at the moment but I'm pretty sure that it makes mention of it being "for display only" or something. I have a similar box for Star Fox 64 (without a rumble pak) that was in the window of a EB games when the game first came out. I asked if I could have it, and surprisingly they gave it to me. I'm pretty sure that one is marked NFR as well.
  • No boxes, however the closest anything ever got to that is the For Display Only boxes for the SNES, however there were definitely never boxes that originally came with the NFR carts.
  • I have a Display only box for Mario Party 3, but I don't think the two are related.
