Starfox 2

Hey I would love to know what this is. Any help would be wonderful. A friend of mine came across it and I told him I would help him find out if this was the real deal or not.

  • It's a bootleg, but a cool as hell bootleg and also one that fetches a high price. As you can see, it is a super pain in the ass to re-wire the cart, and that extra work comes with an added price. I've seen one with a region switch to go between the English and Japanese versions of the game, that one was just full of wires.

So no, not a prototype, but still pretty sweet!
  • So what would it go for? BTW Thanks Mark!! That was the main answer we needed.
  • For awhile they were around $200, but that's come down considerably as more repro makers have had the chance to tackle it.

I think right now they're in the neighborhood of $100.
  • Just so you know, there was no prototype cart of Star Fox 2. The game was leaked as a binary by someone who wanted it to work on zsnes. Any cart you see on ebay (or anywhere else) of Star Fox 2 is a repo.
  • I think that the pal versions of the game are real, but the ntsc are bootlegs. I've wanted this game since I found out it exists. Most of the people who sell it charge about $100 for it.

    No.
  • if it looks like that it is a reproduction

I guarantee you that is a reproduction the exact same as the ones I've made except with mine I pass pin 1 and 2 under the eprom because of the lack of space between the eprom and back of cart. also on mine I have a battery holder on the back side.

also on the cart itself I would bet dollars to dimes that the little round plastic piece that is on every snes cart's back side in the middle has been removed

the battery is also on the opposite side from where it was when it was manufactured

    cleanly done thoug
  • The biggest thing that gives it away that it is not a prototype is the fact that the game is not on a prototype board. Also, look at the date stamp on Super FX chip (1994), when Star Fox 2 was slated for a 1996 release. I have yet to see a snes prototype with the EPROM connected with loose wires.

And, as I said, there is no Star Fox 2 prototype board. The near final prototype was leaked on the internet as a compiled binary by someone who wanted it to work on zsnes.
  • Yeah, they are all repros, PAL and NTSC...that one is just a repro.
  • It is sexy though.

anyone remember the repo man, old wrestler from the mid 90s in the wwf?

every time someone calls a repro a repo (which happens A LOT), i think of him!

Don't remember the wrestler, but I have a similar problem, except I always think of the Emilio Estevez movie.
  • ^ very underrated movie
  • I remember the Repo Man, Seth. If I remember correctly, one time he stangled British Bulldog for a while with a chain. That was a long time ago.

It's funny, right before I came here I was on a reproduction site looking at the new stock and noticed that they have Starfox 2 for $100.
