eBay royalties to game companies?

Someone mentioned this on another forum and said that he believes the sale of video games is allowed, but a seller must pay royalties to the respective company be it past or present games.  I've never heard of this, but I could maybe understand for newer ones, but I think he's way wrong about NES games.

Anyone know anything on this matter?

  • Never heard of anything like that, especially for NES games. The games are too old for that kind of thing.. royalties are usualy paid to use a copyrighted image or logo, not to sell games. I wouldn't worry about it. Besides , half the copyrights for NES games probably aren't owned by the companies anymore, especially unliscenced image.
  • But Nintendo is still selling the NES, SNES, etc on the Wii virtual console, so technically they could put a stop to it if they really wanted too. Would be very bad press though.

  • I don't see how selling used video games (or wholesale for that matter) has anything to do with royalties. If you were manufacturing them, sure, but not selling games that have been wholesaled, retailed and then sold aftermarket.
  • selling videogames secondhand isn't illegal as far as I know... :-)
  • And if it is NAhh na naaaa
