the y's
Most of the time the original version of a game is better than any remakes, but on rare occasions like Final Fantasy 4 on the ds I like a hand full of remakes better than the original. I want to know if anyone has any opinions about the Y's. I've only played the original one for the sms. Does anyone know if the one for the ds is just as good, better, or not as good as the original? And I've never played the Y's 2 before. Is that one any good and how does it compare to the original version?

Y's on the master system is actually part 1 of a 2 part game...I BELIEVE every re-make, re-release of this was both Y's 1 and 2 combined. Y's part 2 is very much like the first one..just a continuation of the story. They then went on to release one on the genny, and a few others that I dont even think made it to the US.
A few groups online did fan translations of these and should be easy enough to find. The last one I played was Ark Of Napishtim for PS2, which was awesome, they also went and rereleased that for PSP I believe.
There are quite a few Y's games out there, but I really think most of them were overseas...which is a shame, its a good series.
If you want a nice version of the first two Ys games, I'd go with either of those. The Turbo version was released in America during the system's "prime," the PC/Windows version can be bought through mail order (be ABSOLUTELY SURE that the version you buy is called "Ys I&II Complete," not "Ys Eternal") and translated by the patches found on this site:

Have fun! Ys is one of my favorite series in the hack and slash fantasy genre, and I hope that you'll have a similar experience!
The Genesis version has a very accurate rendition of the original tracks, and it plays decently, so I'd definitely choose that as the winner between the two.
