SNES Serial Numbers

I don't know why I noticed this, but while I was reconnecting my SNES after moving furniture/stuff back into my room, I noticed the serial number sticker on the bottom of the console. I have a second console that has no such sticker.  So now I was wondering if all SNES consoles were supposed to have one?

It doesn't really affect anything, but I was just curious about it as both systems were sold as "new". Here is further info if necessary:
The console with sticker came from a Donkey Kong Country set, and the serial number matches the number on the sticker on the box.
The console without the sticker may have come from a normal Canadian set with Super Mario World, SNS-CDMW-CAN.

  • I may be wrong but as far as I know all consoles have serial numbers. Can you tell if there appears to be a place where the SN sticker might have been removed?
  • I checked the area where it should be, there's some small "streaks" similar to what is left when a sticker is removed, but not sticky or anything. It seems this would be the most likely cause.
  • I think there was two different kinds of stickers, one foil type that sticks really well and a paper one that comes off much easier.
