Tecmo Bowl and other variant games?

I've been wondering this for years, and I figured this would be the place to ask.   I know there are two distinct versions of Tecmo Bowl (one has Dickerson playing for Indianapolis, the other just has Bentley/Verdin).

Couple of questions- is one version more rare than the other?  (I would think the one without Dickerson would be more rare, since they likely would have produced more games after he was traded to Indianapolis than before).

Also, are there any other games like this?   I know theres a variant board for SMB2, but I don't think there's any actual gameplay difference.....

  • You are in the right place. I'd look for a thread thats already going on something like this.

There are loads of varients. From yellow Metroid to 5 screw Punch-Out. Box varients, Labels, manuals, Dont even start on diferent contries. I don't really go out of my way to collect them. The one I do like that I do have is a five screw Zelda.
  • I noticed years ago that those spelled as Techmo bowl and Tecno bowl Teckno Bowl etc would outsell those spelled correctly by a large margin.
  • I know Bases Loaded had three revisions, the first one because there was a fatal error at some point in the gmae. The second one may have been because of players, but I don't play sports games so I can't help on that image

There are quite a few games with minor software revisions, they can always be sussed by checking the back label for an embossed "A" (or in the sole case of Bases Loaded, a "B") on the top-left.
  • I found a copy of the SMB3 variant that was mentioned in another thread (has a grammar error and some other stuff in the game).

I've seen a few of those embossings, but I never knew what they were for. Thanks for the info!
