non-functional carts

I was at a pawn shop a few weeks ago and i picked up some carts that I didn't have yet. one of the carts was Arch Rivals, and it doesn't work. this is the first cart that i've purchased that didn't work eventually. i mean, i've seen some rough looking carts that still worked and this one is good cosmetically, but won't work. there is something rattling around inside.

any suggestions? ideas on what it might be? hope? advice?

  • could be a piece of the board - if that's the case it will need to be sodered back on - of course it could also be unfixable ... if you are looking for Arch Rivals - I have one that works just PM me an offer shipped
  • I got my copy of Trolls on Treasure Island yesterday. I could have sworn the stupid thing wouldn't work. So I got a few q tips and some rubbing alcohol and scrubbed. After 2 q tips it still wouldn't work. And there wasn't much dirt coming off on the q tip either. I tried one more and really scrubbed hard....and guess what it worked. I have no idea why, it didn't look like I cleaned anything off, but it works now.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is just scrub the connectorse for awhile whether they look clean or not.
  • alright, I'll try that here in a minute. I also have a Tecmo Baseball with something rattling around in it that works just fine. if only Arch Rivals could be more like that.
  • I think I picked up my 3.8mm bit off of ebay for $.01+shipping to open up the games. Its probably just a piece of the plastic inside rattling. Also if you open them it makes them really easy to clean.
  • Most of the time when I have a game that rattles, its the plastic tap holders that keep the board in place.  That might be the problem.  If you are missing or have broken tabs, the board will not be in the correct position, therefore not making proper contact.  Easy fix is to just super glue the tab back in place.
  • I'm thinking the little plastic bracket inside of the game is broken and rattling around inside. It's not working because the cart isn't holding the board in place correctly. Just open it up, superglue the piece back on, close it up, and play. Also, make sure you read Dain's eBay review on how to properly clean games. It works wonders.
  • hey, it worked. thanks dudes!
