NES Promo boxes

Anyone have any promo NES boxes? We have seen a bunch of SNES in the past couple of weeks. I just wondered what NES boxes are out there.

  • There must be some of these out there? No one has seen any?
  • I don't think I've ever seen any; not that I'm looking hard though
  • You mean the NFR (not for resale) boxes? I don't think I've ever seen any of those.

Well boxes do exisit for a few of the unreleased games right?

There must have been something, right?

  • Not necessarily. There is probably box art, but if they never made a production run of cartridges, I doubt they would have made the boxes either.

I would find it very strange. Both before and after all the major systems had promo boxes. Atari 2600 had promo boxes so did Intellivision after the NES the SNES had them as well.
  • Closest thing I can think of would be the Super Mario Bros 2 signage that was advertising the game in the store.
  • NES had two sided plastic display cards of the box art, no need for actual boxes.
  • i have 2 nes promo boxes. one of the mickey games and rollerblade racer. they have blank pictures on the back of the boxes and there are slight changes elsewhere. not really sure what they are, but they definitely arent retail boxes.
  • I have a NES Metroid "Nintendo promotional offer, Not for resale" box.

    Don't know if that counts...
  • I swear there was a Double Dragon III promo box I remember someone posting years back, but it's been so long that I could be remembering incorrectly. It had production art on the front and a solid black back, I'll see if I can find a thread or if I've lost my mind...
  • I have that Double Dragon III box that Mark is talking about. image

  • There was a seller on eBay a year or two ago that was a marketing rep for Nintendo who sold what was it two HUGE lots of like 100-200 promo boxes for NES games all were mint and gorgeous. I got outbid on both lots at the end since I didn't really need them since I had no room for that many promo boxes.
  • Of course... thinking back on it I thought it was someone from here that won those... maybe not. Maybe he only called them "promo" boxes cause he took them to trade shows etc but I guess they could have been real boxes and since he was just a marketing rep promoting the games via the boxes he could have just called them that.

Glad I haven't gone completely nuts haha.  Do you still have some pics of it?  i couldn't find it when i tried to search for it.
  • I have no clue where the pic for it is either, and I am way to lazy to walk over and get it (unless someone REALLY wants to see it)

Damn, 2 year old thread. Can't believe I even remember it. Very cool looking box, I'd love to see more like it.
