Help me Solve a NES/SNES Mystery

I've had this button for a while now. I know that it's legit due to the source I got it from. Funny thing is, I can't figure out for the life of me what exactly this thing is advertising. Was there supposed to be connectability between the SNES and NES? Is it advertising some product that never came to market? Or is it advertising some accessory that was released but is obscure enough for me to have never heard of it? Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

  • My shot-in-the-dark guess would be that it's an advertisement about how you can hook both systems to your tv at the same time when you RF switches. But I have no idea for sure.
  • ^^^ Probably. Basically letting people know that just because you bought an SNES doesn't mean you need to unhook your NES.
  • I have no idea. Sure, you can hook both a NES and SNES to the same TV, but Nintendo didn't make that big of a deal about it.
  • maybe its for a GB system ?

  • or the Super Gameboy?
  • I'm sure it must be for the snes/gb compatibility, ie super game boy or whatever it was called where you could play your black and white gb games in color if hooked up to your snes

oh sure beat me to it!
  • ha, yes my ploy of distracting you with PMs worked!
  • There was a brief advertisement in Nintendo Power when the SNES was coming out implying that you could leave both systems hooked up and still play either one (i.e. running the RF cords through one another). At the time, believe it or not, this was not really common knowledge.
  • Ahhh, now seeing the "Super Nintendo", and the "Nintendo Entertainment System" on the pin that totally makes sense.

    I also remember that advertisement.
  • As you can see on the button the "NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM" text is the logo of the later NES games. I wish i could find the picture that shows both systems powered on and says something like hook em together... regardless, a very cool button.
  • Thanks guys, I think the mystery has been solved! Now I gotta go through old NPs and figure out which issue the ad is in!
  • ^should be on the first couple pages... maybe the FF2 issue?
