Nintendo World Championships Prototype

Has anyone ever heard of this? I don't know the details, but someone found it a a garage sale of an ex Nintendo employee (along with a couple more Nintendo goodies for $40), he then turned around and sold it for $2300. Is this true?

  • That might have been what ended up being NCC91.
  • That sounds really interesting. Do you have a link to a story or something like that?
  • ^ yeah, what he said
  • I remember reading somewhere that the NCC cart booted up like NWC at first.
  • yep what motherbrain said. go to digitpress.com and look it up. it is the ncc cart. you can ask DreamTR about it.
  • Oh, I think that solves it... I'll try and find the story later.

Just to reiterate, it did indeed turn out to be the NCC.  There was confusion when it was first discovered though, and there were talks that it was possibly a NWC prototype.
  • To add to the confusion, one of the DIP switch settings on the NCC board displays the NWC title screen.

A previous ezine gave the full story of the board.
  • Just do a search for the member name jollyrancher and you can find the whole story.

  • ahh yeah, what they all said. also i have the current world record on that game witch i tried to send to Twin Galaxies but they hadnt had the game in there database yet, but they said they were working on it.
  • It's in their database now. I checked yesterday.
  • jollerancher
  • I believe dreamtr sold this to another NA member a couple months back. Theres a post on this. A few months prior we had a huge NCC reproduction that included about 10 bad ass gold carts that went up for auction. They look just like the gold NWC and looked beautiful as a combo.  The original NCC is the only one known to exist and inevitably should be worth more than the NWC; its just not gold! =D

This is where I heard it. Now, since everyone universally agrees on that it's NCC, I don't see why I should disagree.

You should keep up with the weekly contests.  It seems like world records get broken every week.
  • I remember Jollerancher having it. I remember seeing some sort of photo gallery of his years ago. It's the proto for the NWC 2, aka the NCC. But I think I read somewhere that it was actually suppose to be the games on the first NWC, but they changed it.  I'm not 100% sure.

here's the site I found it on:

Its not a prototype at all, its the final board used throughout the whole NCC competition.  They weren't made in the hundreds or put in nice cases like the NWC.  The two use completely different mappers so they cannot share the same games unless significantly hacked.
