Ouch!!

I thought it might be fun to write about some of the items that I missed over the years and am kicking myself for now.  Back in around 2005, while doing my normal shopping at a store that we have in town called Target, I went to look at the video games for sale.  All of their GBC games (WHICH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE) were out of the case on a shelf and marked down to five to fifteen dollars!!  ALL OF THEM!!  Metal Gear, Shantae, Zelda's - - I could go on and on - - I remember buying one or two and thinking to myself that I would come back to buy some more later.  Well, when I finally did they were pretty much all but gone.  I still am kicking myself for not buying those things.  I could have just put them on my Target card and worried about it later - - What was I thinking??  Oh well, I guess if I had bought them all back then, I wouldn't be having as much fun tracking them down now image

What is this.... "Target" you speak of? Please explain.

  • do they sell guns and bows?
  • It's kinda like a Wal-Mart - - but much, MUCH cleaner. And I think the only guns they have Robbie are plastic ;P

weird how no one knows what a target is anymore. i have like 5 in my city haha. it is just like any other department store really. clothing, gardening, electronics, furniture etc... just like a walmart or something.
  • ^^^ *ahem* I was joking.
  • I could kick myself for the 5-6 times over the last decade where I could've purchased a Gold NWC for well under $5K.

I as well. Targets are everywhere around these parts. I was just there last weekend.

  • Worst thing I passed up was an Aero Fighters for the SNES...for $3. Don't really collect for SNES, but for some reason it stuck in my head. Looked it up when I got back home, realized my mistake, and promptly left to go grab it. It goes without saying that the game was long gone by the time I made it back to the store.
  • i once passed on a Snow Bros CIb for $5. I couldn't remember if I had taht game at the time ( which i didn't) and have always regretted it. Oh and i missed a Godzilla 2 for the NES at gamestop when they were phasing it out for $1. I had it in my hand and put it down for some reason. When i went back it was gone.
  • yeeah same here. passed up a beat up aero fighters cib for $22 at a swap meet when i first started collecting cib games.
  • When I first started collecting games, I came upon a guy at a flea market who had in excess of 500 games. He had them all priced at $1. He was one of those guys who buys storage locker contents at auctions, and he made the most cash on furniture. Everything else he just kind of priced to sell. I had no idea what to pay for games, and since I was a newbie, I figured I'd just take what I wanted and that would be good enough. I picked up probably 80 games and walked away. I still have a couple rares I picked up in that lot, but I've wondered ever since what other games might have been in that trove. I've kicked myself ever since.

Edit to add that these were all NES games.
  • Lots of times, if you count the times I was purely playing just to play, not to collect. Had I started collecting the same time I started playing, my collection may look at lot different! I think there are more theads like this here, but from memory there were stacks of $5 Final Fantasy 1's that Toys R Us was trying to clear out. Pretty much all of the RPGs I ever bought, it would have been nice to have gotten an extra copy at the same time to hold onto. Of course that wouldn't have made any economical sense at the time, but hindsight is 20/20 and it would have paid off very well.

    NO SH*T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I was bored as crap one day and was refreshing the "NES" search on ebay when a CIB Staduim Events came up. Meh, I decided that the 4K for the game wasn't my best financial move at the time. It wound up selling in the first 2 minutes it was listed. Come to find out the seller was a douche and the game didn't go for the price he listed anyway.
  • I passed up a test station AND an m82 for $800. What was I thinking?!
  • im bummed i didnt buy 1000 shares of wal mart stock back in 1972
  • I passed on a CIB color a dinosaur for $12 way back when I didn't know squat about rarity image

  • I'm kicking myself for when I stopped collecting 7 years ago when prices were much cheaper for the rarer games. I remember I got Fire N Ice for $6 and that was a normal deal back then.

    LMAO

  • I think the only good deal I passed up was a CIB Lolo 2 or 3 for $5. This was before I knew much about collecting.
