What NES games are you collecting?

There are so many game titles, manufacturers, publishers and regions that I assume the way we collect do differ any many ways. I would like to both share my current way of collecting and take part of what you consider being part of your collecting. You do not need to share the current progress but please share the boundaries (if any image) of your collection.

I have been a member a short time now but long enough to browse the DB to help me create some lists. I currently collect:

NTSC (or PAL): These are the 677 released licensed game in the US. I accept PAL games using the same title. I have 545 right now.

PAL (exclusives): They are either licensed PAL exclusives or NTSC games released with a different name in a PAL region (I focused on Europe being from Sweden myself). I have counted 62 of them (I have not found a good way of generating this list). Got 34 of them, I think this will be the easiest for me to complete.

Unlicensed (Myraid, Caltron, Active Enterprise, Tengen, Color Dreams, Camerica, Wisdom Tree, AVE, Panesian, Bunch Games, AGCI, Codemasters, SEI & Racermate Inc): I got 35 of 98 available titles.

Sachen: Of 66 games I have only 1. I don't think I ever complete this collection as I never seem to cross their paths.

HES: I have 0 of the 26 titles. At least I have seen many of them at Aussie eBay so I might be able to pick up some when I travel there.

As you can see I focus on title and publisher where as region does not matter for me. I personally prefer SCN games but I only replace games based on their condition. I also only collect carts, no CIB's here image.

Edit: Changed 667 to 677. Typo.

  • I collect games just to play them. I don
  • i collect CIB all NTSC licensed & unlicensed...i collect a few variants like the "classic series" (zelda 1 & 2,Blades of Steel,Metroid...)i also collect 5 screw games, but keep them seperate (and loose) from the rest of my collection...once i finish my collection,i'll probly try and get the PAL exclusives, but thats a ways away...
  • I just collect fun games.
  • As for now, I just collect licensed NTSC NES games.

Also, there are 677 released titles in the US, not 667. image
  • I'm just collecting Dragon Warrior games for NES and DS mostly right now, and whatever I enjoyed as a kid.
  • I am trying to get a complete set of all the nes titles. I try to get the more rarer stuff CIB or with the manual at least. The common stuff I just get cart only. I have 400 right now.

    yes, this is true...

    671 games - nintendo.com licensed list
6     games - licensed not on master list
    90 games - unlicensed
    7 games - aladdin
    1 game - event cart

775 games total, if you count everything NTSC

When you say "event cart", do you mean NWC? If so, what about NCC?

Yes, event cart = NWC, and well...NCC is a little tricky to categorize since it's impossible to collect original copies, since there is only one copy that JJgames owns, at least with NWC there about 100 to try and track down

Yes, you are correct. I corrected the typo now, my list in excel do contain 677 games and not 667. Thanks.
  • im not collecting any nes anymore
  • pretty much all.. but focussing on PAL mostly image
  • I only collect the ones I like. I'm not anal about condition just as long as there is no rental sticker on it. At the moment I'm concentrating on collecting repros and replacing my loose megaman cartridges with cib copies.
  • Looking to finish a full US licensed set - SE (gotta have a reason to go to yard sales image)
  • I collect the same as you, except by default NTSC (so the only PAL games I consider part of my set are the exclusives).

I've finally been shifting some attention from accessories to games and I've got around 60-70 games to go (~same amount of manuals and 2x as many boxes) for all NTSC licensed + unlicensed + PAL exclusives + PAL unlicensed (Gluk etc). That excludes the HES games tho as I've only got a handful of those and I'm still missing at least 50 Sachen games. Slowly getting there tho...!!
  • I only collect NTSC carts. Don't care if it's licensed, unlicensed, pirated, etc. If it plays on a NTSC front loader, it's in my realm.

Wow, that's very impressive being located in Belgium image. Its hard to get the NTSC games since many does not ship overseas.

Thanks.  I was a bit lucky tho as I already had around 350 NTSC games from when I was a kid (spent some years in the US when I was younger), which is also why I decided to just stick to NTSC rather than go for a PAL set.  I agree shipping & taxes haven't helped much with getting the remaining games tho!!

  • I collect NTSC cart only, the boxes and manuals are pretty cool, but I'm really just interested in the games.

Out of the 677 licensed I plan to get them all except Stadium Events.

Out of the 90 unlicensed I plan to get them all except Myriad, Cheetahmen II, and the Panesians.

I already have all 7 Aladdin Games.

I do not plan on getting an NWC.

So basically if you go to the database search, leave the search field blank and put the settings to Licensed, Unlicensed, NTSC, USA you get 767 games, then just subract the ones above and add the Aladdins and you have my list.

Good plan mate, I hope you get lucky though and get your hands on a cheap Stadium events cart as well. image
  • What im collecting is the licensed NTSC first and then move the the unlicensed after that. I am collecting all the expensive ones and all the games that have sequels first. Then i am going to get the commons and everything else in the wild.
  • Recently I've decided to sell off my doubles and some games that I don't really care to play.

For NES, I want to get all of the Koei games, Capcom, and most of the "popular" ones CIB.
  • I collect complete CIB + maps etc. of games I played as a kid and enjoy playing now. For NES, SNES, N64, and now the wii. I'm a big turtles fan so I'm trying to get the turtles games sealed. This will be a slow process. I'm also going after an original series (black box) set. They have to be -CAN through and I'm including the silver boxes. Condition isn't a big deal to me, but gotta be decent. Unless it's turtles then it has to be mint.

If anybody has anything that fits that criteria, let me know image
  • I only collect NTSC licensed & unlicensed games. I don't collect PAL, Sachen, or HES.

Thanks, that'll always be the dream, though it won't break my heart it if it doesn't happen.

  • My ultimate goal is to collect the NTSC licensed set CIB w/ maps and such. But I'm a realist, so I'm sure that's not going to happen anytime soon... I don't put enough time or money into it, nor do I want to.

I'm attacking it chronologically just to be different. I have the first 50 except for DK Jr Math and Chubby Cherub, which I'm slowly saving up to make a run at some day. In the meantime, I've been working on the next 25 (which includes Stadium Events - woo!) -- I have 15 of them so far. I have the ability to get enjoyment out of almost anything, so I play them all and enjoy most of them. Even Urban Champion... sort of.
