  • Not really part of the set, but Ice Hockey also has the "sports series" logo in the lower part of the box.

edit: originally had listed Mike Tyson's Punch out there too.  But I don't think it has it there.

edit2:  I might be thinking of one of those nes black box ROB posters which might have MTPO listed there as a "sports series" game.  Or I could be smoking it, one of the two.

edit3:  Here's the poster I'm thinking of.  It has 35 games on it, and shows whatever "series" it is for each:  http://www.videogameobsession.com/videogame/nesboxes/!NES_1987_poster.jpg

  • I always just consider the BB games as "Black Box". However when I did my original dream set lot for sale I included the three silver boxes, MTPO, and both Gold Box Zeldas as well. Technically you could also include the Large Box Gyromite in there as well.
  • I always wondered why Kid Icarus and Metroid were on the poster and not Rad Racer (I guess it was just released later). It also does not say Mike Tyson's Punch Out, just Punch Out, but I can better understand why they may not want to put a person't name on there like that.
  • Rad Racer = red headed step child that Nintendo wanted for forget about?

If that were the case, i doubt it would be on the NWC cart. image

True image  But I also find it odd that Rad Racer is not included on that 35 game poster.  All 30 BB are there, plus 5 quasi BB games ( Zelda 1&2, KI, Metroid, and PunchOut).  Maybe they just ran out of room, or thought 35 was a nice even number.
  • It could have to do with the licensing. Rad Racer and Slalom both have all that other random code stuff on them that is different from all the other games in this discussion.
  • Call me a rookie but does anyone have a pic of this poster you are talking about?

  • Man, I love the little checkboxes on that poster. They just TAUNT you. "What's that..." the little boxes say to me: "...You don't have all of them yet? Well what are you waiting for? You'd love to just uncap that black Sharpie over there and put one more little 'X' in me, wouldn't you? Come on, just $29.95 and you can have Donkey Kong Jr Math AND a little checkmark..."
  • I wonder if they ever intended to have the punchout as a black box and then ended up signing a deal with tyson? That would be a sweet repro with a black box label and box. Heck, even a manual wouldn't be that hard. You would just have to have a TON of tyson manuals. It would be the same game but probably not worth all the trouble.

Strange, I never noticed that they rebranded Super Mario Bros. as part of the Adventure Series on this poster.  I guess it wasn't worth the effort to redo the box and label with that, too.

If they didn't get Tyson in on it, we'd probably get the original gold Punch-Out!! for the Famicom as a black box.

I wonder if that's a misprint?   Because the box itself says "action series".
