when does a collection turn more into clutter

So at what point does collecting turn into clutter. Ive come to the point I simply dont have the room for much of anything. Games arent to bad they can be neatly placed on shelves. But as for other things such as kiosk's controllers, displays, signs etc etc. I just dont have the room. The stuff I have now fits on the shelves i have but some of its piled and looks more like junk then a collection. I have a 30x15 room just for video games and there just isnt any room. Im pretty much just chasing games anymore because of the space issue. How much space does everyone else have and is everything displayed nicely or just in a big pile

  • It becomes clutter when it falls into my hands...if you saw the room I have all my game stuff in you would be amazed. While most items are in boxes, my expensive bigger items are just sitting around all over the place on the floor, on top of each other, etc.
  • My dedicated gameroom is about 3,5m x 5,2m and everything is displayed nicely in bookcases and shelves around the walls, but in the middle of the room there's just a big pile of everything else that don't fit on the shelves.

And there's a big pile of stuff in my livingroom, my bedrooms and in my kitchen, and... and... everywhere else there's room for it.

I think my bathroom is the only room where... no, wait, it's filled with game-mags, lol!

    Gah... I need more space!
  • I have a drawer of 80 nes games, but now I have no room in it
  • Having your collection turn into clutter isn't about size - it's about disorganization. You could have the largest collection (of anything) in the world, and as long as it's displayed or stored neatly, there won't be a hint of clutter. On the other hand, I've seen guys with tiny collections that are so disheveled that it just looks like one big mess.

    Organization is the key image
  • Basil is right Organization is the main key. I literally have a room thats like 15' X 12' And i fit so much suff in it you would be amazed lol. Check it out>

And its all about keeping it organized and neat. I did however have a virtual boy display unit that i decided to sell because it was a lot like clutter, But as for now everything is pretty nice in my domain. And i recently got a test station a while back and after some neat orgainzing fit it in my corner perfect>>

i think the pics on my website haveent been updated with all my recent signs and test stuff, but you can see a before and after of the corner before i got the test stuff. i didnt think i could fit it all in the corner but sure enough it happened lol
  • I agree with what has been said, it's all about organization, and organization takes time. I think there's two reasons for clutter: either the collector doesn't care about it, or the collector doesn't have time to organize it (or just doesn't prioritize it high enough). I know that my problem lately has been lack of time, and then all of my collection-time is basically spent behind the computer checking forums and eBay for info and deals. I've been spending more time on getting stuff than I have on organizing it...but that's one thing I'm planning on changing (it's not really a mess, but I've been wanting to find a good way to fully display my collection so that it is more easily accessible).

  • Do like my doing, sell everything but nintendo stuff & the mess will be gone, 325 nes games and still buying
