Toys R Us new Trade In Program

Check out what they are paying for classic games?  Funny they show Earthbound for $.50 and Super Smash Bros on the N64 for $.50.  A complete rip off.

  • They say generic game so I assume its for any game on the system? They just pictured really bad examples. image
  • Wait a second....TRU is about to start selling used NES games?!

I know they are moving in to the used market, but I had no idea they were going retro
  • yeah if someone finds out they mean any generic game let us know it could be good for atari games i figure you could make some good money toward new games with atari games,

They won't be selling the games they buy back.  They are selling them to a third party who will be selling them to consumers - http://gamersfactory.com/

They are calling all games from "classic" systems generic.  Here is what they are paying for:

    Atari 2600
    Nintendo 64
    N.E.S.
    Sega Genesis
    Sega Saturn
    Super Nintendo

and 25 cents a game for:
    Dreamcast
    Gameboy Color
    Gameboy
    Playstation 1

That SUCKS! I would be hitting up TRU almost daily if they were doing this...you know what else I just read a second ago, don't know if it's true or not, but apparently they will only take stuff back if it has the original box? Has anyone else heard this? If so, good luck getting anything besides like Vegas Dream or something haha.

  • They won't be selling them from what I've read, they will take them and sell them to a 3rd party..
  • It does appear though for newer games you will get more from TRU than from GameStop.  This has got to have GS shakin in their boots image

And it's nice to see the prices they will give you right on their website.

Except they only pay $15.00 for marvel vs capcom 2 for the ps2!!!! yuck
  • i saw this too, crazy... anyone have a pile of Sega Sports games, 50 cents for complete Genesis crap ain't bad image
  • so they wont give you 50 cents for loose carts

WTF? That's just downright strange. Maybe they found a case of them in the back of a warehouse or something. Aren't these things worth more than they are selling them for?

But, the trade-in program is a really smart move by Toys-R-Us. Shitty for us, since there will be less games in the wild when this program catches on, but smart for them. You know that the website is going to be charging Ebay prices + for the games they recieve, and that they are most likely owned by Toys-R-Us. Is this proof that TRU is owned by Gnomes?

    Step 1: Acquire cheap games.

    Step 2: ????????

    Step 3: Profit.

  • they only take a max of 3 per right now! Just as I was ready to dump my crap image

Cool to know.  Is that true?
  • It may seem like a rip-off, but it's all for a good cause. I think it's awesome that Toys "R" Us is getting back in the game. Hopefully, they'll get some more accurate prices though. I'm glad a well-known name now supports NES trade.

I agree, it will at least hopefully encourage GameStop to adjust their buy-back prices a bit.  Competition for GameStop is a good thing for sure.

  • Man, the 3rd party will be the ones making all the money. That sucks.
  • My brother works at toys r us. he said they are taking in nes, snes, and n64, sega, etc. ONLY if they have box and manual. and it isnt .50 for everything or whatever. It is starting. Like they will give 20,30, to 40 for some. like earthbound and games like that. they give close to 40 for. and they dont get the games. the third party is the maker. so for nes games they get they have a contract with nintendo. and nintendo gets all the games and nintendo pays for them. who knows what nintendo is doingwith them though. my brother doesnt know.

This is VERY interesting... Why the hell does Nintendo want CIB NES games?

Speculation: Official Nintendo Retro Online Store?

  • Toys'r'us has done some crazy shit in the past, they like to test different markets. Reminds me of the time when I was working there and they did that dollar store thing, was really hot for the first couple weeks, then crashed where nobody really cared, same junk you find in a dollar store. After a year or so they stopped this program. But the gaming trade-in thing could work, if done right, but knowing them, nah, also I hope it does terrible, kinda a personal thing.
  • This story has really taken an unexpected turn... Nintendo buying back their own games? Will they start re-selling them at a fixed price or something?
  • If that is true, this could be really strange. Maybe official re-releases of games?
  • Didn't Nintendo just sell off a whole bunch of Sealed NES games they found in a warehouse, and give all the money to charity?

If they wanted to make money off old NES games, those would have been the ones that would have made the big money...You would think they would've known that. This is all very strange.

I was thinking maybe all of these companies are noticing people wnating these vintage games or they are trying to take advantage of it since none of the items are in their hands anymore. maybethey want all of it back so they can make the profit.

Well I'm not lying if that is what you are thinking. my brother is a manager at the toys r us here in town. and I have known about this for about a month or so. and I didnt really think anything was happening with it, but believe it or not. it is, and ALOT of games are coming in suprisingly. I told him to give everyone that brings in nes and snes shit to just give them my number and i will pay more haha. but he would def get fired for that.
  • That's not the same gamers_factory on eBay is it? That guy totally ruined my perfect feedback after selling me a defective game. If its the same person, trust me and don't patronize him. He treated me like a common criminal when he tried to rip me off. Started calling me names and everything over $25. It was the fastest paypal dispute I have ever won, btw.
  • The only reason Nintendo would buy back their games would be to destroy them so people have to get a Wii and download them.

But wouldn't they take cart only in that case?
