So I'm going to Japan next month...

Hi, so basically I'm leaving for Japan on the 7th of next month and I'm going to be in Toyko, and I am basically going to go on a bunch of shopping sprees. I am literally bringing an entire empty suitcase specifically just for stuff to bring back. That being said, I am open to orders for stuff that people would be willing to trade for NES games I want. So if you want a copy of Radiant Silvergun or Dracula X or some rare japanese game that would cost hundreds in US dollars, but would be much less to actually buy inside japan or even a non-rare game that you just wouldnt have to pay $20 in shipping for, this is the time to ask. I am for sure going to Super Potato (which I've heard is expensive) and Friends (which I've heard is less so), but I really would like some store recommendations from anyone who's been as well.

  • I hope you get through customs with all that stuff....
  • Wow. I thought this would be a Jumpman thread.
  • Me wants a Fanicom system or at least a Fanicom game(Nothing expensive, Mario games would be fine)! I always wanted to go to Japan but I dont have the means image.
  • How much would you expect to pay for Radiant Silvergun over there?
  • Sweet. I would really be interested in getting a Splatterhouse for famicom on the cheap. Or some beatmania games for PS2 as long as they were really cheap.
  • Ya, I wouldn't mind some Turtles stuff image
  • haha you messed up. you are going to have so many requests i bet. very nice though man. I would like a few as well on the cheap. like don't pick them up if they are expenise by any means. ill shoot you a PM
  • Could you bring back some sushi? image
  • Or a nice bottle of Sake!
  • I could also use some of those Japanese rice lanterns!
  • What kind(s) of NES games would you want? I've been looking for a Super Famicom Sanrio World Smash Ball (SHVC-S7) for a while and have no idea how much one would even cost over there.

Wouldn't mind Final Fight Tough for SFC either, but that might end up being too pricey.
  • Just to give everyone an idea how much games cost in Japan. A good store like Book-nook have these kind of prices:

Famicom to Super Famicom: typically $5-15(bought Chrono Trigger CIB for around $9)

Nintendo 64: I think most of them are under $20 but I never buy any

Gameboy-GBC: typically less than $15(Pokemon Gold CIB for around $7)

Last generation games: typically less than $25 on average(Giftpia - around $15, Doshin the Giant(I guess it is more rare) -around $25)

Nintendo DS/ Current generation: pretty much the usual prices here, although if a game is a year or older like Tatsunoko vs. Capcom you can probably find it for no more than $30. I think play-asia still sells it for $70...

Hopefully I was able to help some people out.

Yea, I was going to suggest a chick too.  Maybe you can get a group rate or something.

Bring me back a stack or pirates!  That would be awesome to play BBB or something where they were speaking japineeze!  Or something that I could spell.

  • There are quite a few games I'd want, but most of them are limited boxes, and are fairly large in size. If you want, I could PM you a general list of what I'd be looking for, as well as a general list of my trade items (Mario's Time Machine w/manual is probably the highlight of the bunch, not counting some other things I may part with depending on what you can get image ).
  • I want a set of the famicom mini series for the gameboy advance. They have neat display boxes for them as well, probably dirt cheap over there.

my friend who lives there bought a sealed copy for about 5800 yen (about $60 or so, maybe a bit more due to crap dollar exchange rate) about 4 months ago inside akihabra (pretty much the most expensive place for games) so it isnt dirt cheap but it is certainly wayyyyyyyyy cheaper than anything you would ever find on ebay or in a resale US game shop (the last one I saw in some shop in california was $400).

anyway, i am affording about $500 just to buy games, though basically all I really just want are weird japan only famicom games and maybe some random japanese game merchandise stuff (I really want game soundtracks on vinyl more than pretty much anything in the universe). so i figure I would have money left over to get stuff to sell and trade out to people.

personally,i really want all the technos kunio games (river city ransom sequels and spinoffs not released here), wai wai world 2 and wild gunman with the zapper that looks like a real metal 6 shooter revolver (my friend has one and it is probably the most dangerous looking toy ever).

nes stuff i want to trade for are basically any games i dont have. mostly games that are 5 or higher rarities on the nesage list, but I am missing a lot of common ones too. i dont care about boxes or booklets or anything either. im basically just building a complete cart only nes set as i dont have the time or patience for anything more.
  • You can get me a CIB famicom sqoon for cheap.

Thats a cheap one, they run 5-20
  • I would really like a large super potato shirt (the yellow ones with the awsome potato guy on them)! I went to japan a few months ago and they didn't have any large in stock (and their mediums are really small)! I would pay 20$ plus price of shirt for one!
