Licensed games with custom cases?
I was cleaning ICTD dummies yesterday when i noticed the game case is actually a custom Acclaim case. This is a late release game (1993?) and I know near the end of the NES's life-span Nintendo let 3rd part people create their own carts. I checked another late Acclaim release, Wiz & wars 3 (1991 for this one) and it also had an acclaim case. This lead me to question:
1. Did any other licensed publisher have their own carts? or at least discernable ones with a logo?
2. Is LJN owned by Acclaim, like Ultra is part of Konami? Yes
ICTD is an LJN game, so I thought perhaps someone swapped the backs, but there are markings on the inside of both parts of the casing that say Acclaim (strangely the B is on the Front and the F is on the Back piece). So if LJN isnt part of Acclaim, they at least got cases from them.
EDIT: (From Wikipedia) "During the 8-bit gaming era, Nintendo, as a form of quality control, regulated the number of titles to appear on its console, the Nintendo Entertainment System.
As a result, companies like Acclaim used divisions such as LJN to
produce more products than Nintendo would have traditionally allowed"
