Is there anyone here attempting a complete SEALED nes collection?

I know actually it's possible to do as there is at least one confirmed sealed copy of Stadium Events in the world, and there are people here who apparently have sealed copies of every other crazy rare game (minus games that never had boxes), so hypothetically it's not out of the question. Now, obviously it would cost a ungodly amount of money and there is also a high percentage that said collector would literally have to get blood on their hands as they flew all over the world personally murdering any collectors that wouldn't sell to them, but sweet jesus it might just be worth it.

Is there anyone here who even has a sealed collection that even numbers in the hundreds? It seems like that alone would be rare.

Anyway, point of the matter is that if I ever become a mulit-millionare, there's gonna be some murderin' a transpirin'.

  • Bronty is missing 6 games from having the entire set sealed.
  • Bronty is near a sealed set. Many others have a TON of sealed games too.

My ultimate goal is a complete sealed NTSC set. I don't care how long it takes... i got my whole life image
  • Check this thread for some of his sweet games graded. Go to the last page.

    He comes close.
  • does anyone know what bronty does for a job because it seems insane to me that a non-millionare would have such a collection.

    ...or maybe... time machine!

    I knew it! Genius!

  • I don't know what Bronty does, but he was wise enough to start his sealed quest back before prices were so ridiculous. I'm sure that helped a lot.
  • I know of one other person who is upgrading his CIB to sealed. However since only one Sealed SE is known to exist well IMO it is damn near impossible quest.
  • Is there any pics of Bronty's sealed NES collection all together? I'd really like to see that...
  • no, he keeps most of it locked up. I don't think that it's ever been all together at once
  • ^ I asked him that question yesterday. I can't imagine all of them together. I thought about going for a sealed set, but I think it will be near impossible. I'm sure you can find 4-500 different sealed games without much of a problem (other than the cash) The rest would be tough.

ding ding ding. He was VERY smart to do this. For example, as most know, he paid a little over $3k for his sealed SE. Not sure if you have done research just on a CIB SE, but he made out very well.

I don't believe so either. Tough part is only a select few know which ones he needs because many would inflate prices if they had them. In a way, it makes it harder on him to get because other could be looking, but then its smart because if it was up for auction, people would bid it up to try to flip it. 6 on way, half dozen the other.

It did.   I can only think of only three games I've paid 1k for and only one (edit:  two now that I think about it) where I paid over 1k.    A lot of stuff I was buying for hundreds that would go for thousands now.   And I was paying high prices at the time to get the stuff I wanted; those less aggressive in going after what they needed could have gotten for even less.

It also helped that I went after the rares first and filled in the commons later.

    True on both points.

As for the pics, there's just no room/lighting in my storage locker to take a group shot.   And how do you even do a group shot that big really, its unworkable.

You are exactly right.   400 or 500 are easy.   A couple hundred get kinda tough and/or pricey.   And 100 are just an absolute bitch.

well, i havent posted in weeks, so i figured i would chime in here... bronty does what i do and what curtis does... it appears i am the odd man out... i should move north! we are boring accountants

as for millionaire... i have a complete cib set (minus se and myriad) as well as a lot of sealed games as well as over 1k games for other systems too. you dont need to be a millionaire to build up a huge, very valuable collection. it helps when you start early and purchased your games back before they became so valuable. as dan said above, he hasnt really spent a ton of money on his rares as he got them years ago. plus, by buying and reselling, he probably doesnt have a ton of money invested into his collection at all! being an accountant with a business background and being knowledgeable about investments i'm sure has really helped him during his collecting life! it certainly has helped me... however, i wish i was as old as dan, cuz i wouldve been able to afford more things back when the prices were ridiculously cheap! yea, thats right... i called you ooooooold! image

okay, thats my 1 post for the month. see yas in another month!

  • fucking whippersnapper!! image
  • Hmm... curtis is in industry, you're in audit, and I'm in tax. Between the three of us we could form a partnership! Dewey, Cheatum & Howe LLP

  • I can't really lay claim to that image Carl Barks came up with that 60 years ago if you know who he is

deweycheatumnhowe is a harness racing horse that was THE best 2/3 year old in the country a few years ago. im sure it is retired now and put out to stud! lucky horse!

im sick of being in audit... especially auditing a fortune 100 company. we got selected for PCAOB review, thennnnnnn we just got selected for an internal practice review. such a major pain in the ass.

Never heard of him but have heard that phrase before. Its just been a while. Probably in accounting in college.
  • I think its messed up that someone would try to increase the price of a game just because he only needs 6 more to complete his sealed set. If anything id try to help him out best i can. With respect from one collector to another. He needs 6 more to complete a sealed set, thats just god damn impressive.

That's exactly how I feel. I asked him which games he needs so I can look out for them, it never even occured to me to try to gouge him.

In a perfect world maybe, but ive seen collectors undercut each other here a few times.  There should be a mutual respect from one collector to another but overall were human and with being human there is greed.

I personally am going for a full sealed graded set.  My original goal was 90+ but ive tuned the goal down to a more reasonable 85+ on the grades since it would be impossible for the 90+ grade goal.  If anything Id upgrade if the opportunity arose.  I have over 100+ sealed games and about half of those graded.  The majority a 90+ with the rest being 85+.

I think Bronty and a few others had a great strategy with collecting the rares first but for a college student like me and the way the nes sealed scene has blown up this year alone, i cant be dropping thousands of dollars on games.  Maybe when i graduate and get a "real job," and can blow my money.  Im thinking about letting my fiance know that we cant have kids until I get a full sealed set because those little basterds are gonna drain my money away from the collecting LOL ^_^.

On a side note. I know this has been debated time and time again but I PERSONALLY dont consider a sealed set including SE because it was recalled and not supposed to have hit the market place in the first place.  I do consider it a rare game and very important for a true NES collector to have, like the panasians and the NWC carts.

  • if i had 1 of the 6 he needed, i would make him get down on his knees and suck my... didn't he say that he would give anyone a blow... job market around here isnt really good right now for accountants, so we probably will have to wait to start our new firm!

I'm guessing Flintstones: Surprise at Dino Peak is one of them?
You would of needed to work at a rental store or knew someone who could of stole you a copy when they got them in.

Agreed on 99%. Greed is out there and people will do whatever they can (especially in this age) to make a buck. It sucks that even people on here would do that, but it does happen. I won't lie, I have done it BUT only to baser_computers because he is a SOB. I wouldn't do it to ANYONE else because basically, I'm not a collector. If you get a good deal, I'm pumped for you. Heck, you deserve it if you find it. But I'll try to undercut him anytime if he gets a super good deal. Sorry if that makes some of you dislike me. I just don't like him.

Only part I disagree with here is the SE part. It has to be included in the complete NTSC list. It was released, but Nintendo bought the rights (if I have that part correct), but it was definitely meant to be released.
