Your First CIB Game as a Collector

yeah, this thread was inspired by Den82...image

What was the first CIB or boxed game you found in the wild (as a collector, way after NES games were sold in stores brand new).

My first was Swamp Thing (which at the time of me seeing it at the pawn shop, i had never heard of it). I immediately purchased it for the low price of 5 bucks. Turns out it's actually a pretty uncommon box, so it worked out well.

  • StarTropics. I really wanted to frame that letter.
  • golf was my first CB,Friday the 13th was my first CIB
  • The first CIB that I found in the wild was NES Open Golf up in Canada.
  • I never had a "first", but I bought a whole big lot of 100. I guess those were my first 100. Here they are:

    Not.
  • I'm pretty sure my first NES CIB game was "Mission Impossible"
  • i started grabbing sealed sega cd games whereever I could after started my preservation project. not the first, but I found a sealed Final Fight CD from some random online store for $20. I was pretty pumped about that one. I also found a sealed American Laser Games orange gun for the SCD for $20 at another random site.
  • Crystalis, I actually discovered this game on GBC, and bought it for the NES right after. Not long after, I started to collect.
  • River City Ransom
  • Contra Force (sorta), it was in the first CIB lot I ever bought. But I bought the lot for the game. It all went downhill after that.
  • Mine was Ocarina Of Time for N64. I still have that beautiful game image
  • I think mine was Operation Secret Storm. Or Legends of the diamond. Not sure which came first. Or Palamedes. They were all close to the beginning.

Its going to be funny to see which game will be the last one I CIB. besides SE.
  • Airwolf.....99 cents a value village!
  • My first CB was The Hunt for Red October, but that was in a rental box, so my first CIB was SMB2.
  • i think it was turtles 2 or ironsword.. dont remember tbh
  • Never found one in the wild. I bought NES CIBs when I was a kid growing up, but my mom threw away all of my NES stuff when I went to college. So in August 2008 I began "collecting" again, and the first CIBs I got were Mike Tyson's Punch-Out and Ninja Gaiden in the same lot.
  • I think it was Big Nose the Caveman, actually. I remember I bought a big lot of 50 or so loose games, and one CIB. Didn't care about the CIB at the time.
  • i've still not found any in the "wild", back in 98 or 99 i found a tmnt 2 sealed at walmart for like $20. i actually saw a few n64 games at walmart last week, just tony hawk and madden though. i dont know what it is but that one walmart always has n64, gamecube, game boy, etc, but never anything good.
  • Actually, now that I think about it; my first was Stack-Up.

Yea, that's strange. my local Walmart (which is only about 4 years old) had a whole case of MLB '98 for PS1 underneath the PS2 shelf last year.
  • Well when the snes came out i probably bought about 20 games for it since it came out until n64 came out. i kept them all cib and in good condition and have them til this day. but the first game i ever bought out of those was mario rpg, but as a collector my first cib i found in the wild was star tropics.
  • When i started collecting i still had 4 CIB games from when i was a kid. Final Fantasy, Mega Man 2, Yoshi, and Super Mario 2. ALl of the boxes except mega man 2 were near mint. The only one of those i still have today is final fantasy
  • Metal Storm. Bought it sealed and opened er up!
  • I think my first one was megaman 2.
  • My first game ever CIB that i got was actually Tengen Tetris. I had been collecting NES for a few months and was just buying carts of games I wanted. I ran across an article online about the Tengen Tetris fiasco with Nintendo and all the other companies, and it really caught my interest. So i watched ebay for a bit and snagged a CIB copy after a few weeks for around $35 image
  • 7 years ago I got the itch to play dragon warrior, so bought one cib minty even on ebay...then all hell broke loose...lol...the collecting began. I actually crushed the box on accident about 2 years back moving...I almost cried...it's not worth a lot anyway, but to me it isimage
  • Tennis for Gameboy. Just got it today, coincidentally.
  • When I was a kid, my first CIB was TMNT 2. After I started collecting NES games in early 2004, Ninja Gaiden was my first CIB. It's in really nice shape too.
  • Super Mario Bros. 3 CIB, after that I was hooked...
  • I'm trying to remember what mine was...it was one of these, though, I know this much:

Super Mario Bros. 3 (had the cart, bought the box and manual at the flea market for 25¢ o_O )

Dragon Warrior (bought from eBay, around $18 shipped I think)

Final Fantasy (bought from eBay, around $10 shipped)
